He blinked lazily when he felt the grip on him. He whined slightly, and looked up at Eridan, half asleep still. "Bro... that kinda hurts man." He tugged at his hands weakly to get them off.

Eridan twitched in his sleep, his grip not loosening. It wasn't until he whimpered softly did his grip relax, hands falling off Dave and landing on the blankets to clutch and claw at those instead.

He rose a brow, realizing that he must be having a bad dream after a few seconds. "Bro? Broseph?" He shook his shoulders a little, papping his cheek a bit too. "Eridan?"

He snapped awake, eyes going wide and unfocused as he tried to twist away from whatever was touching him. His fins were flared in full threat display and he managed to squirm away from Dave until his back was against the cabin wall and he was staring at him.

"Hey, slow down buddy, just- hold on." He rubbed his eyes sleepily, too sleepy for this shit, and turned on the lamp on the bedside table.

Eridan just watched him, breathing fast. He didn't seem to be focusing and ow fuck his head hurt why isn't the screaming stopping?

He shifted, moving slowly along the edge of the bed until he was almost out the door. Maybe fresh air will work. Outside. Fresh air. Let Dave go back to sleep.

"Where are you going? What?" He was confused and sleepy and he wanted to help, so he got up to go after him, stumbling a little. "Did you take your pills?"

"Go back to sleep Dave." He climbed out into the cockpit quickly, heading to the bow of the boat and sitting crosslegged by the jib pole. The metal of the pole was nice and cold, and he rested his forehead against it while looking at the water. Looking at the stars would be too much now. "Just a bad dream. Go to sleep."

It didn't take much more than that to make Dave worried. "I can't go back to sleep. Only when you come." He muttered, feeling a bit out of place. He doesn't know what he should do. "What type of bad dream?"

"Just a bad dream. Go to sleep Dave." He sounded a bit desperate for him to go, keeping his eyes on the water as he reached to hold onto the safety wire in front of him. "Please Dave I'll be down soon. Just leave me alone."

He kept quiet for a few seconds, but nodded. "Alright. I'll just- yeah, ok." He muttered to himself awkwardly, turning around to go back to bed. He didn't even try to sleep though, too worried about his boyfriend to try. He stared blankly at the ceiling instead.

Eridan took his time up there, waiting until his breathing was more normal and his fins were pinned as tight to his head. When he stood he felt shaky, holding onto the low railing as he carefully made his way back to the cockpit, and then downstairs. He crept back into the room, crawling under the covers to curl up tight next to Dave's side.

Dave looked over at Eridan, having brought a sleeping pill and water and put them on the bedside table for him. He silently wrapped an arm around him, and kissed his forehead. "You should take it now." He said, gesturing to the pill.

He shook his head, hiding his face against his chest. "I don't want to go back to sleep. I'm just gonna stay awake." He felt drained however, still tired. So maybe the sleeping pill was a good idea?

He wrinkled his nose a little. "You've been doing that for a month straight Eridan. I think we both know that won't solve your problems. Please?" He went to grab the pill to offer it to him

"Just for tonight. I won't do it tomorrow, I'll take it tomorrow, promise. Just not now." He took the offered pill anyway, holding it in his hand for a bit before reluctantly accepting the water as well and swallowing. "I don't want to dream anymore."

He placed Eridan's hand over his heart after he took the pill, and nuzzled his hair. "I'm sorry. Wish I could do something about it. But the pill will help."

"It wont." It will let him sleep properly though, so there was at least that. "Don't leave me alone. I don't want to be alone."

He scoffs slightly with a bit of a laugh, finding the idea of leaving Eridan alone after this laughable. "Don't be silly. I'd never do that. I love you." He kisses his cheek affectionately, trying to lighten up the mood, though it was hard to do so. "I'll always be here for you."

He nodded, relaxing a little in obvious relief before pressing as close as he could get to Dave and hiding his face against his chest. "I'm sorry for waking you."

He shook his head. "Don't be. I want you to be alright. And if you have to wake me up every single damned night for that to happen, so be it." He turned off the lights again, and snuggled up to Eridan. "I love you tons."

The darkness made him tense and lift his head, blinking wide in the dark. "Can you leave the light on. Just for tonight?" The dark of his dream was still fresh in his mind, and he half expected the screaming to start up again. His fingers tightened in Dave's shirt, and he tucked closer to him out of instinct.

He'd protest, but Eridan's fear was enough for him to quickly turns the lights back on. "Is that enough? Do you want me to turn on the other light too?" He asked softly, one of his hands tangling in Eridan's hair to pet it.

"No. No one is fine. Thank you." He definitely did look relieved, and he hoped this fear wasn't permanent, because at his age he really shouldn't be afraid of the dark. He didn't think about Dave's comfort in regards to the lights, knowing that he should be able to just hide his face in blankets if it really bothers him, and at least the light wasn't too bright.

Dave would just deal with it, but his light-sensitive eyes couldn't handle this just after he woke up, so he buried his face in Eridan's hair, and closed them. "You want me to stay up with you?"
