[[ Looking for an Eridan. So trolls and humans co-exist, it's not rare for humans to be seen with trolls, or to be friends with them, but it is weird for humans to fill trolls' quadrants, since trolls believe that humans do not understand the depths of quandrants. I'd like to make a thing where Dave meets Eridan, or when they first start talking, and we can go from there. I'm putting it under NSFW solely because of what might eventually happen, though I am looking for a relationship development even before we get into romance. If it does get to it, i can be both dom and sub, though I'd enjoy it more if we switched from time to time. Please don't make Eridan into some yaoi submissive crap, be in character. You could be a co-worker, a guy he knows or doesn't at college and simply walks in without knowing that Dave works there, or a complete stranger, its up to you. Must be able to reply with at least 2 paragraphs for a while, but i get it that it's not always possible to do that. Just give me something to work with. (4 lines at least for each paragraph, though I'd like more, or just one paragraph with those lines combined).]]
Dave walked into the coffee shop with a yawn, stretching. It was early in the morning, seven thirty to be precise, and there were no clients there just yet. Well, that might as well be because Dave himself just opened the shop and was alone, but soon enough his co-workers would be there, along with people meeting up or eating breakfast, whatever they were there for. He takes off his leather jacket, it is a bit wet due to how it suddenly started raining a while ago, but it soon had stopped. He still didn't get used to mother nature's shenanigans, even though he had been dealing with this kind of crap for his whole life. He walks into the back room and hangs it on an old coat hanger, replacing the jacket with an apron with the name of the shop in the front, 'the handmaid'.
Dave was a college student, though his looks or tastes would not suggest it, but his liking for music in general and ironically shitty draws did not invalidate his love for dead things, so there he was, on his second year of studies to become an archaeologist in hopes he could get his hands on more than dead crows, possibly bones. Most definitely bones.
He worked part-time at 'the handmaid' mostly in the afternoons, but on Mondays, or in an occasional morning where his teacher had to skedaddle for some reason, he was there from 7.30 to 9.30, relaxing from his regular life. Not that the Strider had complaints about his life, not many, or any at all, but he didn't follow routines for the most part, so each day ended up being quite unpredictable, depending on what he was in the mood for or in what his mates invited him out for. Most times it was Aradia who ended up getting him away from home, as the troll was the coffee shop owner's daughter and they got to know each other, but sometimes it was John or other trolls.
As he walks back out of the back room, he notices that one of his co-workers had walked in and changed the sign from 'closed' to 'open', so it shouldn't take long for humans and trolls alike to start walking in, after all, Dave prided himself in making damn good coffee, way better than that Starbucks bullshit, and Jane baked some fine pastries, as she had been there earlier and now was probably taking a break. She usually started baking by 4am, Dave wouldn't be surprised, but she still had some more things to do.
The blonde waits by the counter, fingers rapping on top of it, waiting for someone to walk in.

Coffee is coffee, no matter where it's made. This coffee shop just happened to be a lot closer to where he needed to go and it's earthen piss water drink was usually served faster than proper take away establishments. Eridan pushed open the door with one hand, the other already holding a book up to his face. He made his way up to the counter, barely glancing up and taking in the human behind the counter before glancing back at his notes.
He shut the book after a second, holding it loosely in one hand as he studied the board behind the counter. "A mocha. With a shake a cinnamon." As always. He wasn't sure why he looked at the drinks list anymore, he always got the same thing. A glance at the pastries and he remember he was hungry. It had been a long night studying. "An' one'a them chocolate croissants." He shifted slightly, long fingers fiddling with the cover of his book as he glanced at the time. Maybe he could sit down and have it for once instead of needing to rush off to class with it in hand because he got distracted again. The course he was taking had a way too strict lecturer. She didn't take too kindly to anyone coming in past the time the lesson started, even if it were but a minute after. Eridan did not like her, but history interested him, especially ancient history.

As the first client of the day walked into the coffee shop, Dave glanced up, all the pastries already being in display, since Jane had been there earlier than him, so that was a relief. He waited for him to decide what he'd be having, still a bit sleepy from waking up too early and already being around the sweet scent of chocolate cakes and coffee, that did nothing but try to nurse him into a more drowsy state. "Alright, mocha with a bit of cinnamon and a chocolate croissant. That will be 4.30$, and you can go sit wherever you please, it will be done in a minute." He says with a soft smile, gesturing to the tables in general, starting to get his order ready.
It didn't take a rocket scientist to know that he was in a hurry, or at least stressed out, so he might as well not inconvenience him and do things fast. He was done in under two minutes, rushing a bit, certainly, and soon he was carrying over his order on a tray. "There you go, the croissant is freshly baked so I'd be careful about spilling any chocolate on your notes." He says as he takes a peek at them.

Eridan rummaged in his messenger bag after checking his pockets, pulling out a handful of change and sliding over the amount needed. He nodded, returning the smile with a twitch of his lips. The tables were all still empty, so he chose one close to the window and away from the counter a bit. His books and notes were littered over the table in no time, despite having just sat down. He had a page on Ptolemy and flash cards on Aristarchus mixed together, not to mention the two thick textbooks pushed against the wall.
It was stressing him out to say the least. He kept mixing up the Romans and the Greeks, laying down Archimedes' achievements with Pliny (either or he never remembered) or mixing Hannibal with Hiero the first. So many names and so many achievements.
He didn't even realize his coffee had arrived until the man spoke. Eridan looked up, hurriedly shuffling a few papers on Aristotle out of the way to make room for sustenance. "Thank you. It's just what I need to be honest."

"No problem, hope you can relax a bit before class." It was quite easy to tell that he was a college student, honestly. He sets down his coffee, and then his croissant. "I've heard great things about my coffee, so hopefully that helps. What are you studying for?" He says, looking at his notes once more, not touching them, but reading over a few lines, keeping his arms crossed behind his back so that he could tell Dave wasn't about to mess with his organization system. Whenever he did as much as touching Rose's notes she was not pleased, to say the least, and though he kept his all around his bedroom -sometimes inside his books, others under the pillow or on the floor- he could keep his hands to himself for once.
He takes a quick look all around the store, making sure that the blinds are open, and that nothing is out of place, and sets the now empty tray under his arm, shoving his free hand in one of his pockets.

Eridan ran a hand through his hair in exasperation, before immediately combing it back into place. "Ah, dead people? Romans an' Greeks mostly. Just finished ancient Egyptians. Gotta love them pyramids." Eridan rolled his eyes, pulling his glasses off his face to give them a quick clean. His attention was all but spent now. Finals week had quite literally crept up on him and figuratively shoved him in a sack and threw him into a river.
Ooh he wouldn't mind that now. A quick swim in something not chlorinated, he hadn't been swimming in ages.
Eridan blinked, glancing up at the barista who'd served him. He knew his notes being scattered absolutely everywhere looked very disorganized. He flushed a bit, aural fins twitching and pinning back against his head briefly before he looked back down again. He picked up the note book, balancing it precariously on top of the textbooks and pulling the coffee closer and taking a sip. Perfect. And he told the human this, smiling slightly.

"I'm not too familiar with dead people, I am however familiar with dead animals and rocks. Gotta love those boulders. These have names that are probably 3 times shorter than the ones I study, and you can say them out loud, so I'd say you're not off to a bad start." A small laugh left him, and as he glanced at the guy, he saw his fins twitch, his cheeks now slightly more violet than before. He was a bit caught by surprise, but found it rather endearing. He can't say he has seen a lot of sea dwellers before.
"Thank you, glad you like it." He said sincerely, smiling back at him, and tapped his fingers on the chair across Eridan. "You mind if I sit here? This place is dead still, and I doubt that will change anytime soon." He actually waited for his answer before he did anything, like a decent person, and unlike the people that knocked before barging into someone's bedroom without waiting for permission.

Eridan huffed a little laugh, placing the coffee cup back down onto the saucer and gesturing for him to take the seat opposite. "Be my guest. I could use a pleasant distraction." He gave the little half smile again, reaching a bit to organize his notes and make a bit of room. He was left with two bits of paper in each hand, one stapled to a full three pages worth of black inked notes with scribbles and frantic cross outs and stupid little doodles he did in the margins because he couldn't stand the thought of dead people anymore, and the other one was just a very detailed drawing of a caricature of some dead guy's bust. Eridan just blinked and sighed, placing them down on the table again.
"You in college too?" He asked the question conversationally, tearing a bit of the croissant off and popping it into his mouth. His eyebrow was raised slightly as he chewed, sharp teeth flashing briefly.

Tugging the chair back a little, he took the seat across him, and put the tray on one of the other two spare seats, making room for himself, and smoothing out the wrinkles on his apron, before he crossed his arms on top of the table, not taking too much space. "I'll take it as a compliment then. I like the doodles there, always the best part of taking notes." Dave's usually took.. well half of the pages though. Not that this guy needed to know about that. He eyed the caricature briefly, but it was quickly set down before he could really take a good look at it.
His attention was quickly shifted back to the sea dweller, still taking notes of small details like hipster glasses and the definitely sharp teeth. He could probably compare them to a shark's and not be too far off. "Sure am, studying archaeology, in case you couldn't tell by the rock talk." He said with the same soft smile on his face. "Stressed out because of finals?"
2015-06-17 11:03:46 -
🌀
Swallowing, he nodded, rubbing a hand over his face and glancing down at his notes again. He drew doodles more than he took notes on some occasions, but someone once said to him that drawing promotes remembering... or something like that. He couldn't remember. Drawing was merely a hobby of his regardless.
"Stressed is one way to put it." He chewed on his lip thoughtfully, sharp teeth not breaking the skin due to ease of practice. He glanced up at the barista, shifting his elbows onto the tabletop and studying him a bit. "You don't look much like you'd be one to kneel and poke at a pile a dirt with a stick."
Eridan realised that that was probably a bit crass, and flushed again, backpedaling a bit. "Well, I don't mean it much like that but... yeah..." He shrugged, fingers tearing another chunk off the croissant and popping it into his mouth. Damn sleepless nights making his usually flawless, prided over train of thought go haywire. Stupid studying. Thank everything for coffee.

He doesn't really take offense to that, but his shoulders shuffle awkwardly as he huffs out some laughter, a wider smile forming on his face. "No, no you're right. I usually do it with proper tools, you know, just to make sure that dirt is well explored. I usually save the stick poking for thing I'm not sure are dead, and that's not really archaeology. You know, I've been wondering about how long it has to be before we can call it that and not grave robbing, never quite figured that out."
"And you don't look much like you'd be one to sit and memorize facts about dead people that I'll probably get to poke with a stick one day." He finds the soft shade of violet rather appealing, or pleasant to the eye a the very least.
2015-06-17 11:18:09 -

A startled laugh comes from his lips and he nearly chokes on the croissant. Eridan thumps his chest a couple times, taking a drink of the still-hot coffee and snickering once he'd caught his breath. "It's only grave-robbin' if the dead are buried with somethin' valuable." He grinned, gesturing with his hands a bit as he leaned back in his chair.
His words brought another laugh and Eridan shook his head in agreement. "Neither did I to be honest. History just interest me. Plus it helps for background knowledge. Story writin' y'know? It helps to have a bit of knowledge that is correct."

He was a bit worried for a second there, but once he figured he was alright, Dave just waited for him to speak up again, rather amused. "Well you do have a point there, I'll keep it in mind next time I go dead-things-exploring"
Dave found himself being a bit surprised at that, but nonetheless interested. "You write? I've had a couple of experiences with writers. Well, wizard fanfiction. I take it you're not too into writing about wizards, but I could be wrong." He glances at one of his flashcards. "I'm sure Augustus here would make a nice character. His name is interesting at least." He offers. " On the other hand, 'trilobite' might not be that much of a good character."
2015-06-17 11:44:11 -
🌀
"You wanna know where's good to go dead things explorin'? Riverbanks. So many dead things. Riverbanks an' tidepools." He sipped from his coffee again, eating the last bite of the croissant as he listened to him talk.
"Yeah I write. Not very well I might add, but I'm gettin' there." Eridan shrugged, glancing down at his notes and back up. "Magic's a load'a crap if I'm honest. Science is logical but magic... Magic is wild, uncontrollable, chaotic. That's what makes it fun to write about, wizards an' witches an' beasties included." Eridan refrained from getting too into the topic, knowing that his passion for things could be unnerving. "Augustus would merely be a name. Trilobite could be an objective, a turnin' point, a goal, an item. You can do a lot more with trilobite than you can do with Augustus." He smiled, fins wiggling a bit before stilling, "besides, Augustus is overdone."
2015-06-17 11:59:48 -
●
That drags a small snicker out of him, as he props his cheek up on his hand, his elbow on top of the table now. "How do you know that? Ever been dead-things-exploring before?" He had to say this guy was pretty tolerable for a guy stressed out because of finals. He honestly appreciated that he didn't just tell him to fuck off with how busy he was. It was nice to talk to his clients.
Dave struggles to keep a smile off of his face when he starts talking about wizards, and all the magical creatures involved. "So you do like to write wizard fanfiction. Seems to be a trend." He said softly, before letting him continue. He laughs again, nodding at him. "Definitely. Augustus sets out on his epic adventure to get the magical trilobite of doom. Adding 'of doom' to anything makes people take you more seriously, don't mind me."

"I explore when I get the chance to swim. Not my fault I happened upon a whale skeleton half buried in sand." He huffed slightly in good nature, shrugging his shoulders and smiling a bit.
Finals were the last thing on his mind right now. This was just what he needed, casual conversation that wasn't filled with people checking watches and picking up their phones at the first sign if a ring or pages and pages filled with notes. He just needed a break.
Eridan saw right through to the smile and his fins coloured, fluttering again as he huffed and crossed his arms, "nothin' wrong with seein' how bizarre you can make a fictional world. And I'm pretty sure 'of doom' is more over done than Augustus. How about 'of sass', or 'of trepidation', get a nice bit of alliteration in there or so. Makin' it a talkin' trilobite... Though I'm not too sure how'd that'd work to be quite honest."

Dave pushes his shades back against the bridge of his nose, before they slid too low, and grinned as he saw his fins flutter, trying to hide it by looking down. They were interesting, and really reactive, by what he could see. "Nothing wrong with liking wizards either. The girl that writes wizard fanfic lives in a house full of wizard statues. Well, they're not her's, but still, no judging, promise." His grin softens into a smile again, his cheeks dimpling a little.
"And what exactly is a trilobite of sass?" He snickers a little yet again. "A trilobite of stone maybe. Or trilobite of typical. Got that alliteration in there just for you."
2015-06-17 12:31:27 -
🌀
"I ain't gotta problem if you're judgin' me on it." Eridan's fins wiggled again, ever so responsive to his moods and tones. It was like he had two flags either side of his head broadcasting his emotions. It was annoying most of the time.
The smile made him sigh and roll his eyes, fins relaxing from their twitching as he rested his hands on the table again.
"A trilobite of sass is exactly that. Spoutin' vibes of sass all over the place." He smiled slightly, "typical wouldn't work. Typical isn't a proper enough adjective. Tenacious maybe. That'd work."
2015-06-17 12:38:44 -
●
It was pretty hard to hide the fact that he was taking interest in his fins, though maybe the shades could make it harder to notice at first. "So you can feel the vibes coming off of the trilobite. Now that's what I call impressive. I'll warn you when I find a trilobite of sass, maybe even a Shiny Staurikosaurus, for your adjective needs." He muses.
"That would be a pretty big one though. Maybe a belemnite would do the trick. Let's see now... a Baffling, bashful belemite of beauty." He smiles wider
2015-06-17 12:49:52 -
🌀
Eridan laughed, leaning forward a bit on the table and digging through for a blank page. "A belemnite now? This just keeps gettin' better an' better." He finally found a blank enough page (it had some scribbles at the top), and pulled a pencil from under the pile of notes. "I got no idea what a trilobite actually is but screw it." He doodled a little sassy looking crustacean and grinned, fins wiggling almost happily.
"How about a baffling, bashful, bemused belemnite of benign beauty and boastful brashness?"
2015-06-17 21:00:52 -
●
He laughed softly at the silly little figure, nodding to himself. "They look like odd crabs mixed with roaches honestly, but I like your design much better." He ran his fingers through his own hair, attempting to fix what didn't need fixing, so it soon came back into place.
At the suggestion of the huge alliteration he laughs a bit harder, rushing to nod at him. "Yeah man go right for it. A baffling, bashful, bony, bemused belemnite of benign beauty and boastful brashness belittled by.. beetles"
2015-06-17 21:57:23 -
🌀
Eridan grinned, fins wiggling and flaring slightly at the laughter. "A'course you do. My artist flair is the envy of absolutely anyone in the near vicinity." He said this all with a lofty voice, tilting his head back slightly and baring his teeth in a mock-sneer. It was ruined by his laughter a moment later, shoulders shaking slightly as he looked down at the caricature.
"I can't think of any more words startin' with 'b' now. An' I have an obscure visual of a odd crab-roach mix that sassily wiggles its feelers and struts as it scuttles!"
2015-06-18 05:52:53 -
●
He shook his head slightly at him, smirking. "That's most definitely what a trilobite is. If anyone tells you otherwise, you can quote me on this." As he says that, he takes a look at the big clock in the room, hung over the main door, then glancing back at Eridan.
"I'm really digging the fossil jam we're having, but don't let me make you late. You can always come back another time for literal and figurative jams.
2015-06-18 08:37:24 -
🌀
Eridan followed his glance, eyes widing behind his glasses as he took in the time. "Shit!" He sculled the rest of his now cold coffee, scrambling to shove papers and textbooks into his messager back. He had ten minutes to get to his class.
Which was across campus.
"I probably distracted you from your work with this talk about trilobites and wizard-y Augustus's didn't I?" He managed a smile, adjusting his glasses and standing up. He was holding the sassy sketch in his hand, and after a moment, ripped that part of the paper free from the scribbly notes and handed it to him. "Here. Sassy trilobite is yours until we find another adjective to add to it's name."
2015-06-18 08:55:33 -
●
"Oh for sure, you just distracted me so hard from all of these clients." He gestures vaguely to the empty shop, and smiles right back at him. "Sorry for making you late, but you're free to come back whenever you please." Dave takes the draw with a wider smile, glancing at it briefly before looking back at the client.
"I'm Dave, by the way." He points at his nametag as he says that. "Shocking, right?"
