He opened his mouth to speak but then he heard the door open behind him. He almost growled because fucking rude, he's busy here. His fins bristled and he turned to see who it was.

Dave, who was in a prime position to see the costumer, nearly jumped off the counter, pulling his arms back as quickly as it was physically possible, and leaning back a little. "Hey Jade, what brings you here?" Play it cool Strider, maybe she was kinda blinded by the sunlight before she walked in.

"What's going on here?" She looked a bit startled unsure if she should be angry or just embarrassed for walking in on them.

His fins pinned back against his head once he turned to look, letting Dave do all the talking for now seeing as he'd probably make it worse.

This must be the only one of Dave's friends he hadn't met. The dog girl.

He frowned slightly, keeping still as though that's make him invisible.

Dave took the chance to shift back a little. "Just.." He considered telling a blunt lie, but Jade was everything but stupid. He sighs a bit. "Do I need to explain?"

Now she just looks a bit offended. "Dave! Since when has this been happening!"

He felt sort of like laughing, but that would definitely make things worse so he just bit the inside of his cheek and kept quiet.

Jade looked so insulted though and he had to glance away so that he wouldn't start snickering at it all. Well, at least they hadn't been properly snogging again, that would've been worse.

"Um. A while." He looks away from Jade, since his shades allowed him to.

"How long is while? Why haven't you told us?" She walked closer, still looking pretty offended.

"Er... a few weeks. C'mon Harley, stop it, we're just macking on each other it's not like we've joined forces to kill all the puppies in the world."

"Dave that's not funny!" She frowns a little. "How did that even happen!"

"Why do you care?" He finally spoke up, a little annoyed now. "And how about you just think for a second as to why the hell he didn't tell you." He'll kick ass if he has to. Even if it's Dave's friend and would probably get him in some serious serious shit.

Dave shrinks a little, because now an argument is going to happen.

"Why do I care? Excuse you? I've known Dave since we were like 10!" Oh god she's going to start. "And how about you let me talk to Dave, you... you tall douche!" At least she doesn't really have a knack for insults.

Dave kicks Eridan's leg a bit, shaking his head as if to tell him to back off. "Stay out of it." The way he said it kinda said 'it's not worth it' more than anything else.

He shut up though when Dave kicked him, narrowing his eyes slightly. Fine. He won't interfere. For now at least.

Dave reached for Eridan's hand, holding it to calm him down a little, and getting up. "Jade, this is really not the time, we're not doing anything wrong. C'mon, you don't gotta play mom and tell me to stay clear of boys and relationships until marriage."

"That's not the point! I couldn't give less of a crap about who you're dating, it's the fact that it is /him/!"

He sighs again, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Are you going to be a pain in the ass like John and Rose? Man I'm just trying to do my thing here. I like him okay, I've spent time with him, and I want to keep doing so, I don't see how that's a big deal."

She seems to be a bit more appeased by the point he made, the frown getting softer. It's like she's confused about the fact that anyone that kills anything could be a good person.

Dave takes the chance to keep going. "Now, not to say I own you an explanation, because I definitely don't, and you could probably just ignore it and keep going with your life and pet your dog or whatever you do in your free time, but I have to kinda emphasise that I like him, and if you're going to be against this, you should probably reevaluate the situation."

Eridan kept silent, but squeezed Dave's hand a little once his own was held.

He understand Jade's concern, he understood completely. But it wasn't fair and he just wanted to be left alone.

He moved to stand up, pushing the stool back in and squeezing Dave's hand. "I'll leave you to explaining. I'll probably just make it worse. Are you still coming this afternoon to cook biscuits." He waited for his reply before heading to the door. He gave Jade a wide berth, baring his teeth a little at her childishly before hurrying out.

Useless worrying people. It's not like he's killed anyone recently.

He nods. "Yeah, I'll show up, don't worry." He kissed his cheek before Eridan could leave, feeling kinda exposed now that he was left alone, and honestly a bit scared. Dave hated confrontation, it was not his thing.

Jade huffed at Eridan, standing short yet intimidating as ever.

After that they had to talk about what was happening, Jade having substantially calmed down after Eridan left, and even coming to an understanding of what was going on. He wasn't too specific with what was happening, he definitely didn't say that Eridan was more of a home to him than anything, but he seemed to get the point across that he was not someone to be concerned over.

He sent him a text once he was at the supermarket, feeling a little bad for ditching him like that.

Jade didn't really understand why Dave would even be friends with Eridan, but she had a feeling that the weird fish troll meant more to Dave than he was letting on.

"I want to talk to him. Properly, face to face without him hissing and snarling and being creepy. And I want the full story of what the hell happened that made the weird other fish troll tell me he was a murderer."

"no big deal, dont worry about it" yes big deal, but why make him feel bad when he doesn't even know. "shes calmer now."

He turns his attention back to Jade. "Well, you'll have to tone it down if you don't want him to be defensive, because he still thinks you're trying to take me away from him, which lets be honest, is not a complete lie. And.. I'll let him tell you about that, I guess. He was there, not me, but it was in self defence."

She shrugged, frowning a little. "When there's time for the both of you. You appear to calm him down, so I'd prefer you in the near vicinity. Do Rose and John know?"

"He was talking about sailing, and I thought about photography after he started describing the island." He shrugs. "He might have offered because, I don't know, i'm apparently the only person ever that doesn't think he's an atomic bomb. But it was basically that. Did it for the pictures."

"I guess we could do that tomorrow, since it's saturday. I'm free on weekends, and he shouldn't mind. And yeah, I'd like to be around."

He texted him the day.

'alright, ill see you there' he texted a heart back, smiling slightly, before tucking the phone away once more.

"Yeah, those pictures. I can show them to you." He did say those were a private collection, but if it would serve to appease them, then so be it. "Can you at least tell them not to be aggressive? Because then it's not going to go well, and Rose is the most passive aggressive motherfucker i've met."

He rolls his eyes.

"Jade why do you think i didn't tell you I'm dating a guy that everyone that knows him hates? Also I don't know if it comes as a shock to you, but telling someone I'm into guys it's not exactly easy, just 'oh, hello there yes, id like to say i made out with a guy. thanks for listening'." He crosses his arms defensively. "Plus, he wanted me to tell, I was the one holding back."

She remembered back to the messages she'd sent to the seadweller when she was warned against him and winced. "Ahm. I can try to get them to not be aggressive. They don't exactly like him too much either. John got pretty creative in the texts we sent him." She wondered if Dave knew about the content of any of those texts, it was a while ago.

She huffed at him, rolling her eyes. "We would've understood!" She waited a second and amended her statement with a cringe. "Okay no we wouldn't've but being kept in the dark isn't helping my opinion towards him at all."

She considered that for a second and sighed. "Yeah okay that makes sense. I've only even known you to go after the female side of either population."

"... Why were you holding back though? Don't you trust us?" That hurt.

"See! You're probably weirded out right now, and the only thing keeping you from thinking about it too hard is the guy I'm dating." He frowns deeper, shrinking a little more. "That depends, don't you trust me with the people I decide to talk to?"

She winced again, worrying one of the loom bands on her wrist as she looked away. "The way the fish girl was going on about him made us think he was going to kill you. I thought I was getting him off your back or so."

She reached for his hand, squeezing it and tugging him to stand up as she did. She pulled him into a hug, upset about distressing him now. Even if it was over the fish bastard. "Dave I'm not weirded out, swear. I just don't like him. He's weird and wrong and so... Alien. He's... Probably not good for you. He's going to be clingy and you never really liked clingy, you told me that before."

He was caught by surprise when he was hugged, but Jade being touchy feely as she is, he didn't really think it was weird, he just hugged her back, trying not to be upset about the whole thing. "Thanks a lot for talking to him or me before you threatened to kill him. Christ, Jade you sounded like those 10 year olds on the YouTube comment section. Or people on tumblr. I don't know which analogy suits it best."

He frowns again, pulling away from the hug. "He's not wrong." Despite not liking arguments or anything of the sort, he seemed pretty determined now. "He's a person, mind you, and in particular a person I care for. He feels bad for wanting any type attention, those other trolls made him feel like he's just garbage! He felt like he had to put himself in life threatening situations to get some attention Jade. Yes, its not the best thing to do, by far, but he recognizes he was stupid, even if he was lonely. And yeah, he's going to depend on me a lot, and I'm not going to say I know how I'll handle that, but I love him and I'll at least try to be there."

She shut up as Dave talked, a bit surprised by the intensity in his voice in regards to Eridan. She felt a bit bad now, for putting Dave through this. She couldn't care less about the troll but Dave was her friend and now he was getting worked up over the entire thing.

"Wait, life threatening situations? Like fighting and killing other trolls?"
