He smiled slightly. "If im dedicating a whole week to that, it would be after exams, but lets go slow with that. Still not used to being away of civilization."

"Of course you've considered it. Who wouldn't? An entire week just out on open waters sailing at whatever pace you want to an' exploring wherever you feel like." A small grin was on his face, his previous blankness completely gone. Like flicking a switch.

"Being away from civilization is like a breath of fresh air Dave. You really don't miss much, an' it's perfect for relaxing."

"You don't?" He wouldn't know, the furthest he had been from civilization was when he was locked at home with no electricity. "I guess we can work up to that, I mean, not like I'm busy for the most part. Have you explored other parts of the coast?"

"No. Not really. Unless you're insanely popular or you're waiting on calls or replies then no. It's peaceful. The world slows down a bit." He shrugged and checked his mirrors briefly.

"Not much of the coast. I've wanted to go up, explore the whole coast, but when I planned to go i had to cancel because storms blew up hard an' three ships crashed with a week."

"Maybe it will get better now, as it is summer and all that." He smiled. The idea of exploring the sea with someone sounded pretty great, kind of like something straight out of a book. "And maybe I can be of use by then? Who knows."

"I'm hoping it does calm down. It's annoying me now." Eridan slowed to a stop behind a truck, thumb tapping at the wheel while he looked out as the rain started.

"You might be able to sail yourself by then. Sail yourself up the coast an' back down again. I still want to go. Sail up or down. Anywhere. Company would be nice."

Eridan tilted his head slightly, glancing at Dave out of the corner of his eye. "You seem to place a lot of trust in me. In regards to your life an' sailing an' exploring underwater caves. Have you told anyone about where you're going yet? Are they aware it's with a troll?" His voice was curious, conversational.

I mean, I didnt really mention it was, but yeah, they reached that conclusion by your name alone." He nods. "Not like there are trolls named Steve or something. And Jade will probably scold me for going with a troll, but Rose just told me to be careful."

"Have you told your brother?" He nodded to him telling, face showing nothing but ease. "Are your friends prejudiced against trolls in any way?" The name Rose sounded familiar, he felt like he'd heard it brought up in conversation before, probably the last time he spoke with Nepeta or Kanaya or someone.

I think she's more worried about me doing that with a guy i met a week ago rather than the fact said guy is a troll."

"Kanaya." Eridan's grip tightened on the wheel slightly and he sighed. "Kanaya. Your friend's matesprit is Kanaya. I knew I heard her say Rose before. I don't think your friend is necessarily worried about you doing it with a guy you just met as opposed to you doing it with me." He raised a hand to rub at his eyes, the car yet again stopped at the traffic lights.

"They all have something against me. Kanaya an' I are on more equal terms than the rest though. I got her, she got me back. Seeing as she did more damage than me, she sees our score as settled. An' the only reason nothing sounds life threatening to you is because I'm actually putting in a bit of effort to act as normal as I can because I like your fucking company an' would rather like to keep talking to you." He snapped the last bit, fingers tight against the wheel again as he turned left down a road.

Dave didn't really seem to think there was a problem with all of this, which was rather odd, since he frequented a café that was meant for low bloods that probably talked a lot of shit about high bloods. "I appreciate it, you know, I do." He smiles a little at him.

"... Didn't mean to get angry over it. I just hate talking about them. An' the fact that you have connections to trolls who know what I was... Am like, annoys me. They could tell you all sorts of bullshit just to settle a score that never existed."

I just want to be your friend, as cheesy and kid-like as that sounds."

He let out a small laugh, shaking his head slightly and pulling over in front of Dave's apartment building. "If it's any consolation, whatever story they come up with won't be worse than the actual truth. Usually it's the other way around with trolls, or so I've heard."

He smiled slightly, turned to face him. "Thanks though. An' I don't think it's cheesy. Well it is, but not really that cheesy."

Smiling back at him, he nods. "See, cheesy as shit, but I don't really care that much. I'll see you tomorrow man, i'll have the coffee, and I'll still send you those songs today. Thanks for the lift, and the company." Tugging his hoodie up, he dashed out of the car, and only stopped to wave once he was opening the door, smiling wide.

He seemed to relax a bit, shoulders slumping with something like relief at his words.

"Thanks. An' I'm still challenging you tomorrow. I'd have figured out what i want from you by then." He grinning slightly, joking now that his dark mood had passed.

He waved back at him through the closed window, smiling a bit as he flicked his indicator on and drove off.

Dave smiles to himself, going up all the sets of stairs, and then back to his apartment.

"Where were ya at kid?" He heard from the couch, Bro being there as usual.

"Just out there, went to grab something to eat." He shrugs, taking off his hoodie, as it is warm inside.

"Be careful with that guy." He adds, but Dave just looks at him before going to his bedroom. He had absolutely no idea why everyone kept telling him to be careful around Eridan, but he'd commit to his promise and only hear it from him.

Meanwhile, he sat by his computer, fixing his tracks for him, picking the best ones only.

There was two someones waiting for him when he got back. One he never met but knew instantly, the other he didn't want to see.

"I have no words for either of you. Leave." He shoved past both women, baring his teeth at Kanaya as he stepped up to the door.

"We just want to ask you a few questions." Silky smooth, deceptive, typical eerie human girl.

"Oh of course you do. An' lemme guess. One from you will involve whether I am aware of the restrictions over my head, one from you will be what exactly do I think I'm doing with your dear friend, another from you will be a warning, an' another from you will be along the lines of leave him alone. I know your words. I have nothing against Dave. I have no intention of doing anything to, against or involving him. I am allowed to have actual friends." He spat the words with bared teeth, narrowed eyes and flared fins in warning before slamming the door in their faces.

He had Rose text him that night, telling him that Eridan got kind of violent when she tried to talk to him. She didn't give Dave any context, just, that she tried to talk to him and he didn't really give her the chance to.

"well what was it about? i'm sure he got angry for a reason." He texts, putting the computer to the side for a moment.

She said she just wanted to talk to him, and when he pressed the matter but she didn't reply, he furrowed his eyebrows a little.

"ok lalonde that's fine and dandy but I don't need babysitters. i know he did something, i dont know what, but i dont really care either. get off his case, christ, hes trying to be chill."

"No, Dave, I'm afraid you don't understand. He didn't do something like push an old lady, what he did was horrible, and you should not be around him. I care for you Strider, I know there's a person there behind the façade you know, so take my word and try and keep your distance. Me and Kanaya both advise you to, and a whole lot of people will. Surely there's some truth behind it, and I'm sure you can tell."

"yeah thanks but not thanks. im going to keep doing what i was doing before. now if you excuse me, i was in the middle of something before you interrupted me to say i should be careful about the friends i make"

With that, he got back to the tracks, ignoring the times when his phone buzzed after that.

Eridan scowled at the door, trembling a bit with his sudden anger.

Why won't they just leave him alone?

He snarled at the door, making sure it was locked before stalking to his room and flinging himself down onto his bed. His glaring could've burnt a hole through the wall.

His phone buzzed at him a moment later, and he rolled to check who it was. The jade green text had him growling in anger and flinging his phone away from himself.

A glance at the clock showed it wasn't that late yet, but he didn't want to get up and try and waste time attempting to study a bit more or dick around on the internet.

He just sighed, standing only to feed the fish and the seahorses before toeing off his shoes and curling back up under the covers, content to just lie there for now.

Sending him the files, he waited for a reply for about an hour, but figuring he wouldn't get one, he just got to sleep as well.
