Eridan curled up against him, deciding he'll explain it later, when he felt better. For now he just burrowed against Dave and tried not to think about anything except the pie they'll be baking later. That was a good enough neutral point.

He started tracing little squiggles on Eridan's hip, that soon turned into shapes, and then in hearts only. He thought about their first trip to the island, getting a nice feeling.

Eridan got pretty much the same memory when he felt the little hearts. He was smiling now, it was small and hidden against Dave's shirt, but at least he was smiling. "I wanted to kiss you so much then." He mumbled, nuzzling his shoulder.

Truth be told, he nearly didn't, since Dave wasnt exactly the personification of courage, but he was really glad he did.

The pie they ended up baking, once Dave had woken from his nap and Eridan had calmed down, ended up being pretty delicious. They'd gotten flour everywhere, since Dave was more of a hindrance than a help, and Eridan yet again managed to turn out an edible dish.

But, as he waited for Dave to rock up at the marina (he said he was walking, for some reason), he was rather hoping he was back there again. Not that he didn't want to go out sailing again, especially now that Dave had free time and could come with him, he just didn't like that they had to have extra company.

Sollux was leaning against his own car, some shitty little two seater with a soft top. Asshole.

"I still don't understand why you're coming along." He said, arms crossed over his chest and bags at his feet. The food and everything was already on board, as he'd been there since five in the morning, and it was now nine.

"Dave thinkth I thpend too long cooped up inthide, and that I should at leatht attempt to be thivil towardth you for a whole day. And Feferi thinkth I'm here to keep an eye on you and make thure you don't do anything thtupid."

"And you're not?" One brow raises, and he looks incredulous.

"Not fully. Dave'th my kithmethith. I'm here to pith him off jutht ath much ath I am to keep an eye on you and make thure you're all goody-two-shoeth."

Dave had woken up later that day for the sake of giving Sollux some more time to sleep, and also because he might have forgotten to set an alarm. Alright, maybe the first part was a complete lie, so what, sue him. He had to pack quickly and run his way to the marina, since his car was an asshole and refused to give him a ride because he couldn't start the engine.

Now it was 9.07, and he's panting, still running with a big bag in hand. He can see them in the distance, and just hopes he isn't too late. Who is he kidding, of course he is. He slows down once he's near them, and stops fully after a bit, just breathing harshly.

They both look at him when he arrives, Sollux's expression is amused, and Eridan's is mostly neutral. He sighs, grabbing Dave's bag from him and picking up his own, and the bag of towels and last minute things for the boat, before starting to walk to through the marina and to Sabriel. "Come on you two."

Once on the boat, he put everything away and set about drilling Sollux on strict instructions that mainly consisted of "you do not touch this, you do not touch that, if you fuck this up at all I will keel-haul you, understand?" Sollux simply nodded, more interested in looking around the boat and maybe poking Dave with psionics before Eridan shoved him to sit to the side. "Stay there until we get out on open waters. And leave Dave alone until we get to the islands please."

He seems thankful that his own bag is taken from him, and does nothing to take it back, just takes a second to chill before he goes into the boat. He then goes to sit next to the wheel, waiting for Eridan, seeing as he already knew Sabriel pretty well. He couldn't be bothered to say anything about the psiionics though, way too tired to move. He hadn't been to the gym in a long time.

Once Eridan was there again, he poked his side to get his attention. "Is he just going to be looking for the whole trip? Shouldn't someone be with him to keep Sollux from fucking something up?"

"That's your job. There's practically no wind on the way over, so we'll be going under motor and I'll be in the cockpit most of the time. He either shuts up and sits down to admire the scenery he'll only get to see a few times, or you can take him to the front and do some petty black shit." He didn't mean to snap at Dave, and the kiss he gave him was gentle and almost sweet, but he was pissed that Sollux had to come along.

Eridan got Dave to go down on the dock and undo all the lines while he started the motor up and got everything ready. Once Dave was back on board he started easing Sabriel out of the berth and into the marina channel. Soon enough they were out in the channel, and following the now well known sea-path to the islands. Sollux didn't say a word until they were clear of the other boats, because he at least understood this was important.

"How long will thith take? Getting to wherever we're going?"

Dave sighed, a bit hurt by the snapping, but whatever. They don't like each other, he was expecting this. He just decided to keep his shades on as he went to do whatever he had to do, already in the beginning of a sour mood. Wouldn't this trip just be lovely.

He sat down next to Sollux before Eridan started guiding them out of the marina, playing a tetris-like game on his phone. "Hours. Probably half a day. Good lucky buddy." He answered flatly, not taking his eyes off his game.

As soon as they were out of the main channel and heading on the course that Eridan had memorised and put in the autopilot, it was obvious to see that he was more relaxed now. There was a faint breeze blowing, and he leant his head out of the cockpit to look up at the tell tales to see if there was enough wind for the sails.

There wasn't, so he sighed and continued along. They were going at a good speed, a solid eight knots, and the water was practically flat.

Sollux was alternating between glancing at Eridan (how the fuck had he relaxed so quickly? What the hell? A relaxed Eridan is a weird sight) to looking at Dave playing the dumb game on his phone. It occurred to him that there'll be practically no internet where they're going, and he groaned, running a hand through his hair. Eridan hid his grin behind his hand.

Dave eventually decided to go up to Eridan, having mostly forgotten what happened earlier. He went up to Eridan for a proper kiss and to explain himself. It looked out of the blue, but he had been thinking for a while. "Hey, sorry for getting here late today. Shitty phone didn't wake me up and shitty car didn't want to drive me there."

He smiled a bit at him once he noticed how relaxed he was now. "You think we're gonna see shark or whales this time?"

He smiled at him, his expression softening a little as he leant against Dave and looped an arm around his waist. "It's fine. I've been up early and I had a shitty nights sleep, so I've been a little techy all morning. Didn't mean to snap at you earlier."

Sollux looked away from the exchange, feeling something weird and tight just under his sternum. Stupid redmates and their stupid red displays.

"Its a bit too late for whales, but definitely sharks around. I need to check on that little reef we rescued. And the seahorses. The dolphins will be through as well, I'm pretty sure that pod lives around here."

"Wait you're actually planning on thwimming?" He interrupted, staring at them.

"Duh. You're excepted to swim as well. I'm sure Dave wants to take you explore so he can laugh at your uncoordinated way of swimming."

"I dont swim."

"Yes you do. I taught you at your insistence, remember. You just need to remember to not use your psionics."

Sollux's cheeks yellowed a little and he bared his teeth warningly. Eridan grinned, turning to Dave.

"Its funny when he does-"

"Eridan no."

"Last time it happened he had them for hours."

"Eridan I'm warning you."

"He gets the hiccups when he uses his psionics in water."

"You're dead fishboy."

Dave looped his arm around Eridan's shoulders, and leaned down to kiss his violet lock of hair. "It's fine, id be pissy if I didn't sleep too." He said jokingly, his smile widening. "Also I bought a new camera and I want to test it with the animals, so that's awesome."

He looked over at Sollux once he started talking, and couldn't help but snort as he genuinely laughed. He laughed so hard his knees bent a little, and he ended up sitting on Eridan's lap. "I fucking love this, oh my God. I brought you shit to dive with us, please use your psionics."

Eridan grinned, shifting to accommodate Dave now in his lap. He kept one arm around his waist, pressing a little kiss to his neck briefly before he turned his focus back to the boat (and Sollux, but he wasn't going to say that. It was Dave's job to annoy his black).

Sollux's face was tinged yellow across his cheekbones, and he glared at Eridan. He turned his glare to Dave. "Who thaid I'll be going in the water all? Ethpecially if you're gonna be an ath the whole trip."

"You have to go in at least once." Eridan butted in, rolling his eyes at it all.

"What are you gonna do then? Wait for us for hours? You sure know how to have fun dude." He shrugs. "If you're not a dumbass like usual, you'll be fine." He teased, before turning around to press kisses to Eridan'a shoulder in return. He wondered if Sollux would also like this kind of thing, or if it was even appropriate to do it to your black quadrant.

"Were going to spend hours there dude. It's like, the main focus of the trip. How long did it take for him to stop using his psiionics underwater?"

"I am not thwimming all the time then." He corrected, glancing away again when Dave went affectionate. It was... odd. Definitely odd to see someone acting in a red sort of way with Eridan. As far as he knew, Eridan had never had a red partner. Only a failed pale and two blacks. He didn't like thinking about when Eridan first was his black, as it just brought up memories of how he kept getting confused when Sollux wouldn't push strict boundaries or go too far with something.

Eridan smiled a little, a small one that was gone quickly because he didn't feel too comfortable smiling around someone who had frequently been a source of anger and self-hatred. "Two days. Feferi had sent us on a "learn to behave" trip. To the seaside up the coast somewhere, before I moved here. Naturally, Sollux didn't want to be bested and demanded I teach him how to swim. Two whole days of hiccups. It was hilarious."
