Eridan picked up the knots instantly, turning them over and over in his hands one by one. "Not bad. But your sheep shank's looped an' twisted here. It could cause a bit of a slip here, like so, aaaaan'... Boom. No knot." He grinned up at him, the knot loosely draped over his fingers. A glance down and he had the knot lying again, perfectly tied on the table again. "What way did you tie your bowline?"

He blinked a little at how easily it came undone, but forced himself to just shrug a little. He'd get it down one day. "Guess that one needs practice. And what do you mean? I just, made a loop, stuck an end through the loop, crossed that end of the rope with the other one, and passed it through the loop again. Important note: I'm not good at explaining shit, I can just do it again"

Eridan grinned wider, teeth showing as he caught sight of the blink and forced shrug. "Do it again for me. There are several ways to do a bowline, they're all pretty much the same but some people find it easier than others." He undid the sheep shank again, showing Dave the twist and thread version of the bowline. "I find this easier, than just looping an' passing through the loop again."

He hummed and nodded, grabbing the bowline and undoing it, trying to do it the Eridan way. He did find it stupidly easy, but both were, in all honestly. "Are there a lot? Because it seems a bit useless that there would be. Also you wipe that smug grin off your face right now." he smirks at him, clearly catching the reason why he was grinning in the first place

"Nah only a few. They're ridiculously similar but some make the knot easier for others." He shrugged, undoing the knot and redoing the sheep shank. "Knot logic I suppose."

"Why should I? This smugass grin has every right to be on my face." He grinned wider, sitting back in his chair and looking at Dave.

He just smirked, reaching a bit to grab his mug and bring it to his lips to sip at. "What does it matter to you whether or not is has a permit?" He put his empty mug down, tilted his head slightly as he folded his arms and just grinned.

"Alright then. At your request, shutting up." He held up both hands, palms facing him as he smiled. He shifted a bit, stretching his legs out under the table and relaxing in the chair.

"My dear favourite coffee maker, could I trouble you for a mocha to go when I finally have to leave you to your treacherous exam?" He wasn't quite sure when Dave's exam was, but he thought he'd just ask now for the drink instead of when he needed to go.

"Well if you're asking so nicely dude, how can I refuse. I'll be leaving in an hour or so though, so remind me then, or your mocha will be cold as fuck by then." One more exam. Just one more exam and he would be free as a bird. "Ugh I really don't want to be working right now. Not that I mind clients, or you , specially not you, but I feel like I should be like... doing productive things like.. I don't know, sleep?"

He nodded, rolling his shoulders briefly before sighing and relaxing.

"I'll also probably take something to eat as well. Probably another brownie. Dunno. I'll have decided by then."

"Why on earth would you sleep? Have you packed yet?" He smiled slightly, fins flicking as he looked at Dave. "You could go take a nap in the back? If you'd rather sleep before your exam then I don't mind nicking off."

"I have packed a couple of things, not everything. I'll finish packign when I get home." He shrugs, but smiles as he sees his fins move. "And nah. I meant that I should have staid asleep, I can't nap now. Plus nobody else is in the store, and you're good company. It's just stressful that I have to be up and running one hour before you know?"

I imagine there'd be not much for you to see, it's really just all sea an' me steering an' fiddling with the sails." He shrugged, fins flicking and twitching as he watched Dave. "Is it a long exam?"

He yawns a little, rubbing his eyes under the shades, making them lift a little when he shoved his hands underneath them. "Three hours."

He was grinning by the end of his barrage if navigational options, fins wiggling in amusement. "You'd just be sitting there making sure it doesn't just swing around to go in the opposite direction while I go for a swim or something."

"It is hard. That's what makes it fun. If you know your stars well enough its really fun. I only know a few to point me in the right direction to home, but I had an opportunity to go with this old blueblood a few years back. It was amazing. He set off at night an' showed me a few stars that will help me get home if I'm lost, an' he just rattled off all these names an' points an' sailed us round islands using only stars. It was amazing." He smiled, fins fluttering remembered the memory. "Yeah. Most modern boats have GPS systems, or at least marine working version."

"That's like playing an already hard game on expert mode. Props to the guy, I would have never managed. I mean I know some stars, but they arent in the same spots through out the year, and some are only visible in certain seasons. Shit be hard as hell. I trust it should be pretty neat though." He nodded, his mind already miles away from the exam. "That's surprising. And makes things lot more easier huh. Which method do you like best?"

"I know. I wish I could do that. The night sky when it's clear, it's just amazing. I don't have words for it." He shook his head slightly as if to back his words.

"I don't mind the GPS. It's good when I don't want to chart my own way an' don,t really want to focus too much on steering. It works with the autopilot as well, which is handy sometimes when I want to admire what's around me. But on occasion I use actual maps as well."

"If the weather stays clear this weekend we might get a real clear sky." He made a mental skim over the forecast he'd looked at yesterday. He'd love to see the night sky again, properly. Last time he was out the storms blew up and hid everything from him.

"Er." He blinked, brow furrowing a bit as he thought. "In random places really. Some I make, like you saw, but some I find in marinas an' fishing shops an' once I found a stack in a second hand store. I collect maps really. Maps showing everywhere."

"Oh thats neat, collecting maps is definitely a new thing to me. Are you planning on using them? Since I suppose most of them arent for these parts of the sea."

"Yeah. The weather is said to be clear or light cloud cover for this weekend. So, if you want pictures of the sky you better take them when it's clear." He smiled at Dave's grin, fins wiggling as he laughed softly.

"Probably not most of them. I don't really do much land travelling, an' I don't really have much time to do coastlines an' reefs' an' seas surrounding other countries."
