"Hold on let me figure out a good order for these. Probably... Pirate-ish-Shark-kicker-slash-fanfic-writer. I could add a lot to that, but titles are better off staying short. Well, short-ish in your case." He rests his head in his arms, looking up at him. "You are implying that you know how to sail a ship, and I have no idea about the map part unless you're looking for treasures, so that sounds very Pirate-ish to me. And you do that for fun? You know, casually endanger yourself and shit." He pauses for a little "Well, not endanger I guess, you could swim back to shore huh."

Eridan just raised an eyebrow at him, arms crossed as he leant back in his chair. "One problem. 'Fanfic writer'? Really?" He smiled a little, tilting his head slightly. "I was makin' a map because where I was the maps were all wrong. They had islands close together but they were far apart, an' currents where there weren't. I need accurate maps, so I made one myself." He shrugged. "Bein' in a lil' danger can be fun. It's excitin'. An' yeah I could, but then I'd be down one very nice boat, which would suck."

"Yeah, I'm going with fanfic-writer. Don't you give me that look, I bet you've published something online. Maybe about wizards, maybe about Augustus, maybe about a wizard named Augustus in his search for a trilobite, who knows." he laughed softly, briefly wondering if he'd read it ironically if it were to be a thing.
"Hold on, so in the middle of a storm, you just went 'well fuck this piece of shit' and made a map. Just like that?" He smiled wider, shaking his head slightly. This guy was unbelievable. "I wouldn't call being in a big boat that might sink a 'lil' danger', but that might be just me. Where did you even get a boat in the first place? And do you mean you have more? Cus you said 'be down one boat', which implies there are more."

"I have not posted online!" He made a face of mock-outrage. "So rude of you! Categorisin' me in such way! Anythin' I've written stays in a folder both on my computer an' in a box. Can't have too many copies of the one file now."
"Well, yeah. It wasn't full on stormin' when I started the map, an' I knew one was comin' but I wanted to start it there an' then." He didn't really get why this was such a big thing. But it was making for a good tale as he retold it, and Dave seemed to be amused by it. "It's not that big of a boat. Around 44-foot an' everythin' was held down or in the cabin already. I just had to stop when the waves got too rough and hoist the gib so I could sail diagonally across the waves."

"Oh how could I be so rude. My deepest apologies, you're the type that writes fanfiction for himself, gotcha." He mockingly winked, smirking while he did.
He listened patiently, indeed quite amused by it. It isn't every day you meet someone from a whole other species that happens to do all kinds of things he never dreamt of doing. With really expressive fins too. "Well I was thinking of something bigger, you got me there. But still. It's probably not easy to draw a map while you were trying not to ruin your boat. Still have it? The map i mean."

"Exactly." He sniffed hautily, breaking what he was trying to imitate in seconds by starting to laugh again. He calmed down within a few moments.
"If you were thinkin' a somethin' like a schooner or a yawl then I'm happy to tell you you're completely wrong. While that makes my sailin' skills seem extraordinary, it's wrong. Can't sail a massive ship by myself are you insane?" He was grinning though, fins wiggling and betraying his happiness. "Yeah I still have it. I think it's on the boat still."

"I wasn't exactly thinking you were sailing by yourself ok, give me a break." He snickers, though yeah it made him look way more impressive. "Oh shit, if you could maybe take a picture or something that would be fucking rad. You know, just to prove that you're not bullshiting me." He teased light heartedly, the smile betraying the stoic face he was trying to pull.

"I don't particularly like sailin' with others. It takes years to build up a good crew, an' there's no one I've met with the same sort of thrill for the high seas."
Eridan nodded and reached into his bag to pull out his phone. "I think I might have a photo already. Documentation an' all that." His face showed concentration as he swiped through photos. "Ah. Here. Sorry for the absolutely shitty quality." He spun the phone around for Dave to see.

He leaned forwards with interest, blinking a little. "Ooooh, that's some good shit right there. I'm more used to a professional camera, but this is good enough." he double tapped the screen so that it would zoom in a little, and admired the detail he put into it. It was pretty nice to look at, though simple. "Documentation you say. And this is a map to where exactly? Is it around these parts?"
2015-06-19 21:38:01 -

"About four or five hours straight sailin' at nine knots off the coast here." He jerked his head as of the coast was right across the road and in the general direction of where he went. "Found an island chain an' had a look around. The storm caught me when I was on the lee side of the smallest island. I sailed with it home an' sketched what I could through the storm."

He backed up once he had seen all there was to see there. He wanted to say something about the vague directions, but what was he even going to do with more specific ones? "Found anything interesting there? Because that sounds fucking awesome." Alright so what if he was starting to be inclined to learn how to sail, whatever, it wasn't that cool anyway.

Eridan grinned, shifting forward and taking his phone again. "I got a few photos of some over water stuff. Stupid device can't do underwater well, even with a waterproof case on. But here." He turned the phone around again and showed a few photos of some dolphins and what looked like a whale from a distance. "It was more itnerestin' under water. There was this massive underwater cave system by the middle island. It came up into this cave that was covered in glowworms in the dry ceilin' an' the floor was littered with these shells and stones that literally shone. It was amazin'."

"Oh my god the wonders I could do with my camera in a place like that." He mused, looking like he was actually considering it for a second there, looking through the pictures as he spoke. "You got a whale on camera? That's a whale right?" He bit his lip slightly, sighing. "Dude it's not nice to be a tease, c'mon. You can't just tell me something like that and expect me not to be internally screaming a little" He shook his head, smiling slightly at the description. He'd absolutely adore to go somewhere like that. "In other completely unrelated news, I'm thinking about renting a boat and learning how to sail it."
2015-06-19 22:18:17 -
🌀
Eridan's grin grew wider and his fins wiggled happily. "Yeah it's a whale. Shitty photo takin' skills but yeah. I got it before it went under again. The dolphins kept dickin' about in front of the bow, an' one flicked water at me for some reason."
He shrugged, still smiling wide. "I'll get a better camera an' take some photos for you."
At Dave mentioning learning how to sail he raised an eyebrow, "oh are you know? Lemme tell you, go for a skiff. S'small boat an' easy to sail single-handedly. But rentin' a boat generally costs heaps, 'specially if the company realises they can scam someone into payin' more than needed."

He glanced over at his fins again, over his shades now, due to his position, and 'aww'ed ever so softly to himself, before going back to paying attention. "I mean, that sounds great, don't misinterpret me, but part of the thrill is taking the pictures you know. But I suppose I won't be going there in this life time, so what's the point." He shrugs with a deeper sigh. "I'm shit at sailing and broke. I'm in college after all." He huffs slightly to himself, a little upset that he wouldn't get that view on camera.

His smile dropped a bit, and then disappeared completely as he thought for a minute. "... I could teach you." That sounded stupid, ludicrous coming from him. He'd only met the guy today, actually met him. But this was something he'd been wanting to share with anyone who showed interest. And now someone was showing interest but couldn't do it. "I mean. I've got a boat. An' a sailin' license. You could just pay me in good coffee an' photos..."

He looked up when he said that, eyebrows raised visibly above the shades. "What?" That was the first thing that he managed to say, this was way too kind of him, and he had no idea why he was doing this. Baffled yet grateful, he started smiling again, softly at first. "Are you serious? I mean, shit, I don't want to be a burden, but I can definitely do that." He hurried to nod. He did think about the fact that he met him quite literally today, but when was he ever going to get a chance like this again? He could change his mind at some point, or he could stop coming, so he definitely couldn't decline

"I'm serious. Pay me in nice coffees and photographs an' we'll be fine. I'll take you to this island chain, the one I mapped. It's a pretty good area to learn to sail, it's got coves we could anchor in if the weather gets too bad, an' I can teach you all the knots an' ropes an' lines an' you can get to see all these things an' take photos." He smiled at him, head tilted slightly. "Might even find a dead thing you can poke at."

He didn't bother stopping himself from grinning, absolutely delighted by the turn of events. "Dude, thank you so much, that's amazing. Bet it would be pretty neat to learn how to sail with you." Something told him that besides useful at times, it would actually be rather fun. Meeting up with him on a regular basis out of work sounded great. The weather was usually pretty great too, despite the random occasional storm that he sometimes found, unprepared, like today. "It will be worth it, just the photos alone will be rad as fuck."
2015-06-19 23:19:21 -
🌀
Eridan's smile matched Dave's, and his fins wiggled happily at his response. "Well then Dave, when would you like to learn how to sail? I've got a sloop sailer, which is one of the easiest to sail single-handedly, but it'll be nice to have someone else on board for once."
The rain outside finally looked like it was starting to let up, but Eridan was now completely focused on Dave and what they would do.
"You ever been divin'? Some of the cool stuff is underwater a ways down, an' it might be an idea to get scuba stuff. Seein' as you don't have gills."
2015-06-19 23:24:37 -
●
"Well, I'm free weekends, but most day's after 3 it's fine too. I just can't on Mondays because I have two shifts that day." He started, more than happy to see Eridan was also excited for this to happen. "And yeah, I've been scuba diving before. When I was about 9 my bro made me do it in a pool, i nearly had a heart attack because it was hard as fuck to get up with all that crap on my back, but I did it again a couple of years ago for a photo shoot with a couple of classmates and it went fine, I know my way around the equipment."

"Would you be able to take a like four or so days off? That'd give us enough time to cover the basics an' see a lot of the stuff, an' then we can go on some weekends out so you can sail an' do everythin' an' get better at it all." He was searching through his bag as he spoke, pulling out a few things and checking them over. He didn't find what he was searching for and grabbed the notebook still on the table. He wrote out an address, turning it around. "This is the marina where I've got the sloop moored. Just so you know where."
2015-06-19 23:33:51 -
●
"You bet I can, whenever you want. I'm a fast learner, by what I've been told. " Just the idea of going out on weekends to do something like that was exciting for the Strider. He glances over at his bag, wondering what it might be that he needs to find. Once he finishes writing the address, he nods to himself, carefully tearing the sheet off the notebook so that he wouldn't forget.

Eridan leaned over go write his number on the piece of paper. "Text me when you're good to go so I can get everythin' organised. Four days will be enough for you? Anytime you want to go sailin' after this just text me. I'm always wantin' to go out, but when there's no one to go with you it loses it's fun."

"I have no idea of how long I'd need to learn the basics, honestly, but it shouldn't be much more than that, sure." He scribbled his own number on another piece of paper, along with his pesterchum, turning it over to him. "It would probably be neat to start in a couple of days, not like I'm busy anyway. And I don't know if you have a trollian or something, Aradia does, but it's pretty easy to get a hang of me there if I for some reason don't reply."
