Dual had been a loyal knight of the royal family for most of his life, so when he caught wind that the rival kingdom was declaring war on the kingdom, he had expected to have his schedule tightened and for him to have to be more alert, but what actually happened had caught him off-guard. Which, for a royal guard, was pretty problematic.
Having been called in to the kings quarters, he was told that he was to protect the kings daughter at all costs. He was confused; why was he assigned for this? This wasn't okay! He was supposed to protect the kingdom, all the people, not just one person. However, the princess was more valuable than all of the townspeople, so... He agreed - He wasn't going to deny the king such a request, of course.
So, without further ado, he was soon taken to meet the princess for once. He's seen her, off course he had. He was a knight in training when she was growing up as well, so he often saw her in the courtyard or the halls, or at balls he stood on guard for. Following the king through the halls, the powerful man knocked on the door, "May I enter?" He asked to whomever was on the other side of the door- Dual guessed it was Kankri.

If I may say, Kankri was not the happiest with this new arrangement. At first she was okay, because being one of three royal children when most royals had around six or seven, so she could understand, but upon learning she was going to get a skilled, fully trained, and experinced knight she wasn't too happy. He could help with battle plans, strategies, and carrying them out, not saving the "damsel in distress". She could literally have a large dog and be okay. Well, in her eyes.
Of course they would choose to meet in her room instead of something like the llibrary. Because that's the best place to meet apperently a very fierce man who could kill you at any moment he wanted to. They didn't do something too big, but the maids did convince her to wear a nice dress for meeting the knight. First impressions matter. And secretly she had something up her sleeve just in case.
She took a deep breath through her nose and stood glaring down at the dress before smiling and saying, "Yes, you may." Wow, she looks like she doesn't hate life now. Magic. Sounded like it too.

At the confirmation of entry, the king opened the door and walked in calmly. Dual, on the other hand paused, hesitating before he walked in after his majesty. He didn't know what to expect, was he going to be glued to the princess' side day in and day out? Was he to watch her from afar? What was actually going on?
He kept his thoughts to himself, standing idly behind the king as the older gentleman started speaking. "Kankri, you look lovely, my dearest child." He said warmly, hands on her shoulders lightly as a grin washed over his face before he removed his hands and cleared his throat. "As I've discussed with you previously, you are going to have a knight by your aid at all times," the king started, settling the question on Dual's mind. "This is one of our top knights, Dualscar, but you may call him Cronus." The king gestured to the man who promptly fixed his posture and bowed before the princess.

She kept the soft smile on her face as her father spoke to her. Trying her best to make it seem lile she wasn't dying a little on the inside at a possible drastic mistake, but she would know soon enough if it was. But seriously though, this man could be for better use. Well, at least in her opinion.
She turned to the knight with the same soft smile, as her father introduced the two. Well, she wasn't ugly that was for sure. She did a small bow in recognition for him and his hard work, "Its very nice to meet you." Unfortunately for Kan, Cronus is going to be staying practically glued to her side until months after the war, or until she gets married and has another guard, or guards protecting her. In her opinion she prefers the first one.

Dual stood up and smiled softly at the princess. One look at his face and one would know why he was nicknamed Dualscar. The scars were from a battle years ago when he was a young knight, and they stuck around ever since. He had some scruff along his face and he looked much older than he actually was, just by a few years.
"It's a pleasure to be at your service." Dual told her as he fixed his stance to stand up again. The king smiled and clapped his hands together. "Lovely. You two will get to know each other more, but if you may excuse me, Cronus, the maids are getting you a room situated." The king stated, patting the shoulder of the younger man. Cro looked surprised, not expecting his quarters to change, but he bowed his head thankfully. "Thank you, sire."

She wasnt really bothered with the double scar, more so sympathised him. Kankri could only guess it was a room or two away from her own in case something happens during the night. She turned to her book case she had in her room to search for something to read immediately so it wouldn't get too awkward. As she was looking the king had placed a piece of paper in Cronuses hand before taking his leave.
When he gets the chance to read it, it would explain that Kankri could get a bit slippery at night and sneak off, so he asks for Cronus to keep a closer eye on her at night, and an open ear in case he could hear her faint footsteps.

As Kankri moved to her bookcase, he looked back to the king, expecting further instruction, but was surprised whenever he instead was slipped a sheet of paper. Thr king slipped out of the room then to make sure the knight's room was prepared or nearly done at the very least. Dual watched the doorway before he sighed softly and looked back at the princess.
He hummed softly and tilted his head back to the side. "What're you reading?" He asked curiously. Cro didn't read much nor did he know of many famous authors or books, but he figured that he'd ask to make some conversation so he wasn't juat standing around like an awkward oaf.

She was already in her special reading seat and looked up, a little shocked. Very, very few knights would speak to her, let alone about something so trivial. Maybe he's one of the very, very, very few who realized that the king didn't mind and was okay if they spoke even if they didn't speak to them first. It's always a bit of a surprise for Kankri.
She cleared her throat then said, "The Iliad." Now that's a universal book. Created by Honor it was the first book before the Odyssey. Hm, why would she be reading something so advanced? Impressive. People did say she was the smart one.

Dual was one of those select few that would speak without being spoken to by the royal family - He and the king spoke often, and since he was going to be around the princess for much longer, he might as well exercise that right.
Humming a little at the answer, he nodded a little and glanced to the book. "I see. Any particular reason you are reading it, or is it just to occupy your free time?" He questioned her curiously, taking a couple steps closer to the princess.

🌀
Oh shit. This was her weak point. Social interaction. Shit okay she got this. She's been in need of practice anyway. She looks like a deer in headlights almost.
"I, uh, just like the book." It's a book about war, and bloodshed. Why the fuck would such a special lady be in need to read something like that? It's kind of a fucked up story. And not even Christian, "Any I've always liked the mythology behind most of it."

He took in the near deer-in-headlights look and looks down for a moment. He didn't want to make her uncomfortable, she could tell him to fuck off and he has to obey, and he wouldn't mind. Scratching the back of his neck, he hummed and shook his head.
"Ah, I see." He said softly, nodding a little to himself. "I've heard it was quite a read, but is it any good?" He hummed. "I hope I'm not pushing any boundries here, m'lady, I'm just simply a curious man." He shook his head, offering a small smile.

She smiled back best she could. It's obvious she doesn't do too much talking to strangers. Which, she would need to step up her game if she were to wed anyone in the future.
"Its alright. Promise. And yes it is a very well written book in my opinion." She paused for a moment thinking, "I could let you borrow it for when you ever have time to read it." She offered. This was another time she just reread the book.
2017-09-17 03:03:44 -
●
Dual just listened to her,he would be surprised if he'd been told that she was rereading the book. He relaxed a little at the assurance that his pestering was okay before he smiled sheepishly and shook his head.
"I'm afraid I really never have any free time to do much, let alone read. Thank you, however, for the offer." He said, bowing his head towards her before he stood up properly. He was usually busy training new recruits or doing his own training, or running orders from the king when someone was needed to be brought in with a bounty on their head. For now, however, he knew he'd be more focused on protecting the king's daughter, and he didn't know how much free time that'd leave open.

"Oh alright." Sudden awkwardness flushed over them again. She sat in thought before moving to put up the book. She decided that she was going to play her favorite game. She stood and went to grab a thin-ish Shaw and began to head to the door.
Dualscar would have never gotten the chance to see her play the favorite game because it was always at the base on the other side of the castle than where he was normally stationed. To get there you walk down the stairs through the main doors, a right to the gardens, through the gardens and outside the small blockade of wall decoration for the garden and then enter.

Dual watched her curiously before the princess had started to leave, confusing the knight as he wondered where she was going. He looked confused as he watched her walk out the door, moving to stand in the doorway as he watched the princess disappear down the hall. He wondered where she was going - he guessed outside, since she had grabbed a shawl, but where for certain she would be, he had no idea.
Frowning a little, he shook his head and eventually opened the paper the king had slipped him, reading over the warning of the girl liking to wander at night and that he would have to keep an ear out for her footsteps at night. He looked confused, though the expression didn't linger long before the king called for him. Cro folded the paper up and went to see what he was needed for.

The king was probably going to ask him to stay around his daughter the entire time, or as much as he physically can. She was the most special of the three and he would learn why soon. Remember we agreed on magic in this AU.
She went out, greeted the general, and the knights training the newer men who had joined. She took a seat and watched, after a few times they had sparred and being very tense around her whilst bowing, she began to say one of the two boys moves right before they made them, it was funny to watch their reactions and it was exersicing her abilities. She's a special child.
