It had been a peaceful morning, the key-word here being "had". It started out like any other, Psii getting up early to take his sons out to try and learn to fly. Mituna was getting the hang of it, but he had many more lessons to go, especially if he wanted to impress the neighboring tealbloods, Latula in particular. Sollux was a grub, watching his brother and father practice together. As the day went on, Dolorosa, the mother of the group, even if not biologically, stopped in to check in on the yellowbloods and entertain Sollux, stretch out his tiny wings, not yet fully feathered.
It was getting to around lunch time, Disciple bringing back her latest hunt with Meulin for their group to eat and calling out for their pack to come and feast. Mituna insisted on one more try, one for flight to the next tree. Psii sighed and complied, but that decision was one that would haunt him. As they went to take off, Sollux watched with intense, wide mismatched eyes, unaware of his surroundings before he saw mesh netting surrounding him. He had let out piercing, panicked chirps, but the humans were already running off with him.
Psii had quickly stopped in his tracks, looking over before giving chase. Claws and teeth bared as he chased down the grubnappers, it was soon apparent that he was no match for the van they took off in, wings tiring and his legs giving out. When he returned, he had hugged Mituna close, returning to the pack with his head down, ears lowered and distress clear as he broke the news.
Unknown to him, from that day forth, Sollux would be the start of a long, long study about trolls. From the moment he went in, to when he cocooned, rehatched and as he matured, he was a test subject, not that he knew any better, he barely remembered anything prior to his cocoon stage. Psii would not stop looking for his son for a few sweeps before he finally started to lose hope, beginning to think he was lost forever or even dead. Yet, scientists would soon return to where they first found Sollux; not to release him, no, but instead to try and find more trolls.

That morning was peaceful for everyone, not just one part of the pack or the other. That morning Signless stayed in, teaching his troll sons how to make blankets and pillows out of plants. To most trolls and humans it seemed like an absolute silly thing to teach, but for cherry bloods it was very important especially in the winter seasons. Cherry bloods are extremely warm blooded, much more than any other caste, and the ones closest to his is the Captors but they alone can't keep them warm enough to live well in the snow. Kankri was getting the hang of it and the newest out of all of the grubs Karkat sat in his lap and watched with large eyes as his father weaved a blanket.
When finished, around lunch of course, the panicked chirps started, Signless instinctively took his sons into his arms and peeked out of their literal hole in the ground nest to. He gasped at the sight, but was sure that his friend would be able to handle the situation, so he started to dig down further with his squealing sons to protect them best he could. He only crawled out when his mother called out to him. Signless stayed near his nest but on the surface waiting for Psiioniic. Perking up at the sight of him but then was struck with immediate sadness and loss when he saw the state he was in.
After the incident the pack moved away from the area and closer to the sea. Psiioniic, I assume prefering to stay right on the boarder, far enough away from seadwellers and the humans while he can still be amongst the trees with Mituna. New nests were made and more precaustions were taken to ensure the safety of their pack. Which after sweeps would grow bit by bit. About half a sweep before the next incident Signless met Dualscar, much to his friends delight because he also meant more protection and another two trolls to hunt, which was quite important because they needed more food. Karkat wasn't his biggest fan considering one he was just coming out of his teenage years, and two he also had to deal with a new older brother who liked to flirt with Kankri.
But then they were found out by the purple bloods. Causing the pack to run away and eventually scatter out in hopes of losing them or throwing them off guard. Karkat didn't know where he was running to, but it felt familiar. The thickness of the trees, the scent of it all, but he felt tired. He wasn't the best fed and was easily the skinniest, but he wasn't on the verge of dying. I'm sure it's because of that reason that Dualscar chose to follow him. To, this familiar part of the forest, where the scent of humans lurked, because they were nearby.
