Ren had texted me with a message from Lance, asking us to search the area for Ivory. They didn't define 'the area', but I didn't care, I'd search the whole damn city if I had to. When I reluctantly told Seculus that Ivory was in some kind of danger and we didn't know where she was, the former of which I could tell from the almost palpable sobbing causing multiple typos in Ren's message, he thought I was lying. I forgot that he could sense when she was in danger. When I did convince him that something was wrong, we had to wait out an anxiety attack before we could leave. I refused to split up with him when we started looking, even if it meant it would take less time. He didn't think it was safe to fly, he'd stand out too much, so he searched from the ground while I tried to get a bird's-eye view. I regretted leaving him to wander aimlessly through large crowds in this kind of state, but I stayed above him as often as I could, and checked on him frequently over cell phone.

We didn't find her. Seculus hasn't left his room in three days, and I've barely gotten him to eat. He's done a lot of sleeping in hopes that he'll be lucky enough to cross paths with her there. I've done the opposite. But no amount of midnight flights has brought up any sign of her whereabouts. I'm starting to wonder if she's dead, but I'd never tell him that. What could've happened...? Ren said she had been drinking before she disappeared. Oh god, if she was attacked while drunk, there's basically nothing she could've done to protect herself if they caught her off-guard...what if she was out in the sun again? I can't...take any more of these ideas. I need to find her...

As Madison walked by a patch of forest , there was some rustling.

My wings were so sore from hours on end of flying that I'd had to start walking instead. I'd gone in ever-widening circles from the center of town and finally ended up out here, dragging my feet. I ignored the rustling, sure it was just a raccoon or something. I was too tired to be on edge.

The rustling happened again, and then a third time before an Ivory stumbled out, falling to the ground.

I froze and turned around. /Holy shit/. I ran over to her and pulled her to her feet, hugging her tightly. Then I remembered the circumstances and pulled back to look at her. "Are you okay? Are you hurt? Have you been in the woods this /whole time/?"
