Both of them sat in silence. There was a burning smell from the kitchen and Tassek swore under his breath. "I forgot about that. Hold on." He disappeared into the kitchen to salvage dinner. Seculus stared blankly at his hands, still wanting to deny that he had ever been anything but himself but seeing nothing but hard facts proving the opposite.

Later, I found myself in Calistor again. Knowing who it was I would meet there, I had no interest in staying, but I couldn't really wake myself up, and maybe she wouldn't show up this time. Maybe I'd even get a chance to test my wings later if she stayed away. For now, though, I curled up hugging my knees to my chest and wrapped my wings around myself, taking off my glasses.
