"That sounds so nice! Gardening is something I enjoy, too, I've always liked growing my own herbs. It gives such a better taste to things when they're fresh. I'm sure if you wanted after all this political business of yours you might be able to settle down and garden again if you wanted to keep with it. I know a good number of folks who might like a nice set up but get stumped when it comes to pleasing arrangements."
"Well, we might all end up settling in at that rate," Eridan smirked, "since Gamzee has a relative and Karkat won't want to leave any of you."
"How do you know what I want Ampora?" Karkat grouched, though lightheartedly. He just wasn't all that fond of being easy to read. "Maybe I'd like being isolated from all you total assholes. I really can't stand any of you."
Gamzee had to laugh at that, but tried to stifle it. He'd been trying to pay attention to what Tavros was talking about, but Karkat's grouching had caught his attention. "Sure Karbro, whatever you say. Dislike 'em all so much you made desserts."
"I grew up in a tunnel, I don't know proper etiquette. Are you telling me desserts won't express the bottomless pit of my disdain? God dammit."

"I do not think that I have ever grown herbs before, just crops," He mused, continuing on, "There are plenty of factors that go into gardening and flower arrangements," Tavros beamed, feeling more comfortable in a topic that he knew plenty about, "It is not just, uh, the colors and the types of flowers and plants that matter, but even their texture and scent. I am not sure how it is done here, but Alternian flower arrangements dealt heavily with, uh, the type of impression that one was attempting to make. A romantic setting and a casual party have two, very distinct arrangements."
Vriska grinned toothily, taking a bite of her food, then chewing and swallowing as she piped up, "Go on, I encourage it! Hate us to your core if it means more food."
"Surely you learned some semblance of social normalcy from those lovely books provided for you?" Kanaya teased, glad that they had reached a point now where they could all poke fun at one another but still remain in good humour.

"Special occasion arrangements would be so interesting! I'm sure you could even have a little business for smaller sorts of pots. I was more talking the sort of place like a front garden, though the concept would be the same, color and scent and everything arranged... and maybe a lot of trolls would want a mood about it like you speak of. My dear that is just so interesting; I'm sure that could be very popular! You could corner the market with that."
"Oh, they were most informative, I got in quite a lot of swooning practice," Karkat smirked, rolling his eyes. "I keep waiting for some asshole to come and sweep me off my feet and make me do all of their cooking.... are you the overprotective lusus that's guarding me now, Vriska? Keeping me for my cooking since Gamzee's been 'rescued' already?" Karkat teased, the damsel in distress a popular trope, usually guarded by a monstrous lusus or some other creature until their eventual rescue by some hunk.

Feeling his cheeks heat at the praise, Tavros modestly took a bite of his food, then another, chewing contemplatively before responding to her after a swallow, "It is...an intriguing concept, Ms. Corvus," Tavros said finally, "But I am afraid that I have not an eye for, business. Still, I would like to know where my location will be, before venturing anything like that - call me foolish, but sudden monetary adventures scare me more than, uh, political ones." He grinned sheepishly as he took a sip of his wine, "I think Gamzee will definitely want to live here instead of Tulgey, even with all the nostalgia. And Wocky." His lips pursed, "I suppose we could allow her to run free in the forested area outside Rial, but I think it would be best to alert the government of that sort of thing."
She shrugged, "You are much better at it than Eridan, who doesn't cook in the slightest." Vriska planted a sweet kiss to his cheek, adding, "Raw seafood is wonderful until it becomes boring. Alas," She draped her wrist dramatically over her forehead, proclaiming. "A pirate's palate desires hardier, heavier foods! Bring upon the meat, the bread, the ale and intertwine it with a good bar fight! How it delights the senses and tantalizes the soul."

"Oh, I'm sure you will do fine. I can always help! I've been running my business for quite some time, so I'm used to the monetary adventures by now," she smiled. "It would be nice if you both found a place here, with your Wocky. Perhaps you could even fix up that old place in the forest if you were interested in such a project? It's been run down a while, and I'm sure she'd want to be close to you. And perhaps my grandson would be more comfortable in some woods even if they aren't the same ones. ...and you are really much too polite Tavros," she smiled at him.
Eridan for his part was not all that insulted, especially when he got a kiss from his matesprit. "Well, we might reelly have to nab Karcrab if you want good cooked food all the time."
"I don't think I'm going to let myself be captured, thanks." Karkat put in after swallowing a bite. "I've decided on a different 'monster' to guard me after all, until all this dramatic romantic nonsense comes to pass in this bizarre fucking story book of ours." He patted Gamzee on the arm, and the purple smiled, showing off sharp teeth in a half menacing smile, but completely ruining the effect by giggling.

He leaned in a bit as he spoke, "Between you and I, I think Kanaya would benefit more from your business leadership than myself. That frightening underground group, HUED, completely decimated her shop back in Undlegire, and I am uncertain if she knows how to start up once again." Tavros looked sad as he picked at his food a little, "All these future plans make my head hurt, and our near future does not look so pleasant...Oh!" He immediately looked up, realizing that he had been rambling somewhat, "I'm sorry, that was rather pitiable of me, was it not? I apologize, that was out of line."
Vriska rolled her eyes, but it was in good standing with the rest of the people at the table, "That monster couldn't scare a baby meowbeast. Even Alice is more frightening than that lad."
"Even though this journey of ours, so far, has been stressful and definitely unorthodox by any stretch of the word, I cannot say that I have not thoroughly enjoyed myself," Kanaya hummed, "Us monsters have to stick together, right?"
"I'm not a part of this troop," Sollux joked with a sip to his wine, "According to the mixed city newspapers, Karkat and I don't even exist. If you'll excuse me, we'll just traipse off someplace else while you all conduct your dastardly deeds."

The elder troll did not know what he was worried about. Things were somewhat different in Wonderland, evidenced somewhat by his and Gamzee's past talk on the subject of love. "I do believe you are allowed to be pitiable? It is quite the horrible situation, after all. No need to apologize for circumstances you cannot control, dear." She took a few bites, sipping her wine and smiling at the others. "I will see what I might be able to do with helping dear Kanaya, though. You are all so nice, I quite enjoy having such a full house."
Karkat almost choked on his wine while Gamzee positively beamed at Vriska. While the cherry was cursing Sollux's words, the indigo was absolutely uplifted by the idea of not being scary. He could swear he was going to start floating by the togetherness of them all. He nodded to Kanaya, patting Karkat a little as he coughed. The cherry waved him off, though, so he could retort.
"But I'm not /supposed/ to exist. It's just that it's impossible to believe one of such a high position, such as yourself, would possibly align with them. If they knew what a grouch you were and maybe paid less attention to your cuteness they'd lob you in with the rest of us. Or them, since I don't exist." Secretly he'd really liked what Sollux had said, but he figured the yellow didn't mean it in any significant way.

Sollux wasn't sure what to make of the comment towards his appearance (he was cute?) and looked to Kanaya for some type of clarification, but she was drawn to Carala and Tavros's conversation when she heard her name.
Tavros, embarrassed despite his transgression not seen as such, still scrambled to defend himself a little, "Uh, really? It is just that in Alternia, that would have been seen as, a kind of pale move, and that was not what I was intending."
"Help me with what?" Kanaya questioned and Tavros, to try to distract himself, filled her in on the conversation at hand, and she nodded graciously, "Oh, yes, that would be most helpful. Those wretched HUED members completely destroyed my livelihood."
The yellowblood ate thoughtfully for a few moments, the air mildly tense as most everyone knew or had some type of idea as to Karkat's intentions except the anticipated party. Sollux simply shrugged, deciding that the comment about cuteness was unimportant and he wasn't going to stress over it. If Karkat was going to flirt with him, it probably would have been more direct instead of intertwined within the topic at hand. "I prefer their way of thinking," He agonized, "I hate traveling. I hate conflict. I hate all this..." Sollux gave a quick, all-encompassing gesture, "Action."
Kanaya laughed, "Captor, dear, You only hate it because you wish for everything to be so orderly. It is not as if overthrowing a political order will be all prim and proper."
He sighed some, but patted her hand on the table and gave a grim, accepting nod, though it was all for drama's sake, "Yes, yes. Always right, you are, Ms. Maryam. I believe next you'll wish for me to say something sweet and bubbly, and, dare I say it, Tavros-esque. For instance, 'I am so happy to be surrounded by people that are not complete bastards every moment of every perigree of every sweep.' "

Gamzee had a spurt of pity at the exchange between his not quite pale and Sollux. Karkat had feelings that he didn't even fully realize, and Sollux couldn't see it either, not that he necessarily reciprocated. He hoped that someone would get the hint. To take the heat off he decided to respond to Sollux himself. "It is pretty fuckin' nice to not be surrounded by motherfuckers all the time," he drawled, calm and happy.
Carala was distracted with Kanaya and Tavros. "Of course I can help! I'd be glad to, after some casteist bastards destroyed your livelihood." She covered her politely. "I'm sorry if I'm a little crass for an old troll; I just can't deal with that sort of prejudice." She paused, looking at Tavros as she hadn't forgotten what he'd spoken of. "Well I suppose, but I think it would take more than that. Moiraileagence is more... of like a best friendship... not completely pity but understanding and comfort."
Karkat didn't have much to say, instead digging into the remains of his meal. It certainly was delicious. And he knew dessert that he and Gamzee had proudly made for all of them would be just as delicious. He wasn't all that concerned about Sollux and his reciprocation. They were in the middle of something rather pressing, after all.

Eridan was quite confused and leaned into Vriska slightly. What exactly was going on? It was fairly obvious Gamzee and Karkat were getting along well, if not completely into their diamond yet. But this development with the yellow had him a bit perplexed. He thought his matesprit might have a better idea of things. He could at least tell that if either one of them were interested they were obviously not making it clear to the other.
Gamzee turned back to Tavros, trying to keep in touch with both his and the other's conversations as he ate. He thought quadrants on both worlds were relatively similar, but what did he know? He wondered if it would be a problem with Tavros that he didn't particularly pity him so much as respect him and, well, just plain loved him. Perhaps their definitions of the word were different even. He supposed that could explain some things. Maybe he would bring it up later.
2014-11-09 06:41:41 -
●
He could only imagine what other differences there were in quadrants. Moirallegiance was like a best friendship in his world, but it was still considered romance, hence, why it was considered (rather, he thought it was considered) such a breach in social construct when he rambled about his personal problems. Tavros, ultimately, decided not to bog himself down with it and finished his food, if only to keep his mouth occupied with something so as not to speak.
The blueblood may not have been entirely perceptive with her own relationships, but she knew romance when she saw it in others and Karkat was not fooling her. Sollux was, as per usual, unreadable, but Karkat was making passes that were not too clear, either. She shook her head in disbelief, muttering, "This is going to turn into a disaster."
Peering as the rest of the table, Sollux furrowed his brows before looking to Kanaya, "I feel like I'm missing something, Kan."
She looked up at him curiously, swallowing the bite she had in her mouth, "Hm?"
He shook his head slightly, almost feeling stupid for being worried, "We can discuss it later..." Sollux hadn't had to deal with legitimate romance in sweeps! Is that how people flirted now, it was so subtle? Starnetians certainly were not, perhaps that was why it had completely flew over his head. Did he even like Karkat in that way? He supposed he had never given his red quadrant much thought; his life was usually full of work-related things or Kanaya, he hadn't thought that he needed (or had room) for anything else. Still, he did not exactly see Karkat in a different light - how could he pursue romance utterly when there was still so much else to worry about? If his feelings blossomed further, he would court him, surely, (he was a gentleman, not a savage) but it would not delve into a formal quadrant until everything had settled down.
Kanaya, a master at leading small talk, looked to Gamzee, then Karkat, and brought up a new, safe topic, "So, boys, have either of you come up with any more stable plans for that fundraising of the orphanage?"

Karkat could feel eyes on him and glowered, not liking that feeling at all. But Kanaya's question came as a relief and he perked up a little. Carala even looked over at them, smiling brightly. And when Gamzee got that big goofy grin on his face how could he not feel a little less grouchy?
"Hell yeah! Turns out Granma's place has a kitchen in the back we can use for some baking. With different sorts of pans and everything for different desserts."
"And the front even has those coffee machines I can figure out when we're serving. Since coffee is so common, I was thinking if you two were willing and had enough we might even introduce some tea for some pairings and as something interesting."
"It will be nice to have you two. And I'm sure you'll get quite a bit of business! When your father was still well, he was quite handy with pies. He actually got quite creative with them. And people would come in to try the new ones and get their favorites all the time. So at least there will be some curious parties wondering if you've got your father's knack for them. And Karkat, your creativity! I saw what you were fashioning for Kanaya here, that was quite brilliant."
"What no, that was just me fucking around, it's probably terrible," the cherry mumbled, trying not to turn red.
"Nah, Karbro, it looks great... we kinda made a lot of little things for you all to up and try; we wanna get some feedback and see if we should keep botherin' with 'em or if we gotta tweak some shit."

"You made something for Kan?" Sollux was both impressed and happy that Karkat was thinking of his dearest moirail, "That's sweet of you, Vantas. Who knew there was some kindness under that grumpiness, huh?"
Vriska nudged Eridan, giving a subtle nod to Karkat and Sollux before volunteering, "I'll eat any and all rejects. Don't you worry, my sweetest, most wonderful friends. The burden of food unsuitable for your delicate palates, (especially you, Alice) is one that I will shoulder. With my mouth. And my stomach."
The Alice in question stuck his tongue out at her, but both dissolved into laughter before Tavros spoke between giggles, "This is exciting! I cannot wait to see what kind of, uh, business you both pull in. Perhaps the remainder of us can do some networking in our time here? Even at that, big political meeting, we can mention what you and Karkat are doing, Gamzee."

"Well don't go spreading it around, Captor," Karkat grumbled. "Wouldn't want anyone to get the wrong idea." He couldn't help a small laugh at Vriska's statement, though.
Eridan got her little nod to the pair, and wiggled an eyebrow at her a little in recognition. "I think I'm more than willing to kelp my dear companion in her selfless venture of sweet eating for the cause," he smiled, sipping at the pleasant wine again. It was just so nice to be hear surrounded by friends. Maybe it was partially his drink, but he just felt so warm with love.
The indigo couldn't help laughing at Vriska's enthusiasm for their food either. And this after saying she didn't have much of a sweet tooth. "Well, there's plenty for you to try. Even came up with some sorta sea salty thing to see if it's any good for seadwellin' folk."
"Oh?" Now Eridan was even more interested. "I don't know if I can wait for such a surprise! I'm sure it's lovely with you two behind the creation."
"And I think that'd be really good, Tav," Gamzee's smile was warm as he looked over at his matesprit. "Get the word out so maybe they could do even more than just help with our fundraisin' if they were so inclined."

"Oh, I nearly forgot about that meeting," Kanaya, in all her fun in Rial so far, had the real meaning behind their trip pushed far back from her mind, "What do you think the layout will be?"
Sollux shuffled a hand through his hair, remarking, "Probably a panel-like set-up. Us on one side of some long table in the front of the meeting room, and the leading members of the local government on the other side. The remaining members of the government will be in the audience, most likely. I can't see how else they would do it, other than a circular-type format." That seemed to be the theme of Rialans, from the structure of the city to the way the hives were constructed.
"Ah! I never did figure out just what, to say at that meeting!" Tavros groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose, "And it is day after tomorrow..."
Vriska snickered, "Quit yer bellyaching, laddie. Did you not agree to answer some questions and Karkat do the speech?"
"Oh, goodness...did I?"
"I believe so. You get so carried away with things, Alice. Take a breather, why don't you?"
"Being in the public eye makes me, so nervous," He huffed quietly, "I hope I do not make a fool of myself."
"No worries, everyone," Kanaya soothed to the table, "If one of us makes a blunder, we will fill in and dissuade the tension. Then calmly direct the audience to how their money can benefit orphans."

"I would not worry too much about the government officials, my dears," Carala soothed, "They are quite nice people! This is a haven, after all, and I'm sure whatever you have to say will be well received. Many here know directly of how cruel the system is as it currently stands, after all."
"I don't know really what they expect from us for a speech... just our stance and goals? It's pretty straight forward. And if we're all going to be there then we might all get asked questions. Don't worry too much, Tavros, even if you are something of a celebrity. I don't know if you went out besides for dinner tonight, but the people here seem much less concerned over blood or position than what you're probably used to. I doubt the government will be much different," Karkat said. He wasn't really all that nervous, surprisingly. He thought he would have, but Rial made him feel very comfortable.
Gamzee put a comforting hand on Tavros's shoulder, rubbing lightly. "I'm sure you'll do fine, Tavbro. No worries." His matesprit was such a sweetheart, after all, and who could have a problem with that?
"And we can always pull at their blood pushers with the tales of unfortunate children, as Kanaya said," Eridan put in. Though when he said it it sounded more like a pirating scheme than charity.

Vriska burst into laughter, "Ah, yes! The timely tales of saddened children lacking lusii," She snagged a kiss to Eridan's lips, giggling against his mouth, "You sound like the sly sort when you speak, Marchie, not like the somewhat sickening good we are up to."
The rainbowdrinker raised a brow at Vriska that she grinned toothily at, "Gracious, Vriska. Are you always so lively when in the midst of a comfortable place?"
"Shouldn't I be?" She retorted, "I don't even have to hide my sword out here. I can say whatever I wish, I can drink and eat whatever I desire, and I needn't conceal my gold coins with our higherblooded companions. You could say I am enjoying an impromptu vacation from society."
Tavros smiled weakly, laying his head against Gamzee's shoulder as he replied to Karkat, "Your tranquility with the situation is admirable, Karkat." That, really, was not the only thing bothering him. After the meeting, they had two more days left within Rial before they had to return to Starnette, and Tavros was not sure if he could go through with it. Not when he felt so terrified about it...
"You still look a trifle glum there, Tavros," Sollux observed, and the brownblood tried to assuage his worries, but the yellow offered, "Why don't we go ahead with the next course of action, yeah? Dessert's next, maybe something sweet will put you in the same mood our pirate is in."

Gamzee grinned, and kissed the top of Tavros's head in apology for having to move as well as just plain being affectionate. He hopped up, taking plates away to the kitchen as Karkat got up to do the same, also smiling. They were both excited to see how the others liked their creations. Since they couldn't possibly take everything themselves, Carala helped, smiling almost as much as her grandson. She liked having all of them over and having family dinner. It was a little bittersweet, but she could put that past her to enjoy the time.
Once the table was cleared, Carala brought out plates as the two cooks deliberated on presentation in the kitchen. They had the two small cakes (making everything smaller somewhat so that more dishes could be tasted) and then Kanaya's dessert, which they figured only she would be interested in, as well as their other experiments. Finding a couple platters, they brought everything out.
Everything was set in the middle, the main attraction a dark chocolate cake with melted chocolate dripped from the top along with chocolate covered black, rasp, and strawberry varieties decorating it as well as made into a sort of syrupy jam that was drizzled over the chocolate and in between the layers. The flower flavored angel food cake Karkat had made was bright and mostly undecorated except for some lightly golden whipped cream flavored with honey around the base.
What they gave Kanaya was a sort of ice cream, smooth and lightly whipped and a vibrant blue color only a few shades lighter than the blood she normally put in her tea from the cream they'd mixed it with. There was also a smaller dessert, their experiment inspired by Hatter and Hare. After tasting a number of the teas their friends liked, they'd made one into a small cake, much more dense than the angel food, and drizzled over it sea salted caramel that balanced the flavor of the tea.
"So we gotta get honest feedback here... no just sayin' it's good and shit." Gamzee was trying to be stern and failing spectacularly. "Especially with the smaller two, gotta know if their any good."
2014-11-09 18:16:54 -
●
The pirate nodded, taking her role as taste-tester surprisingly seriously. She inspected the cake carefully, (after several words of thanks) and took a small bite. The flavor was familiar, as it was a tea she and Eridan did enjoy, but she thought that maybe making something with a coffee inflection would be better received by the Rialans. "Superb, as always, but the cake's texture is too compact. Most of the food around here is pretty hardy, you may want to think about making desserts that are tailored to Rialans lighter and airier to give them a new food perspective, especially if you are going to infuse it with tea." She shrugged, "Other than that, I like it. What's the seadweller think?"
Sollux, even though he had his cake right in front of him, was mesmerized by Kanaya's dessert. He knew what blue blood tasted like, as being the moirail to a rainbowdrinker for sweeps held very little room to /not/ know what blood tasted like, and she nudged his elbow playfully, "Dearest moirail, direct your attention to your own dessert, please."
He scoffed, picking up his fork, "Blood is not appealing to me, no matter how many times you make me try it." Ignoring her, admittedly cute, laughs, Sollux took a bite of his cake, the taste familiar and bittersweet. He just thought of his life near the mountains with his lusus, but was snapped out of his thoughts as Kanaya patted his knee and he heard the excited chatter of his friends.
Tavros could not stop raving about the sticky, syrupy goodness of the fruit and chocolate, but he, surprisingly did think it was a touch too sweet and would either need more sour berries or have them not be covered with chocolate. Kanaya thought the blood ice cream to be an ingenious dessert, and took her time in savoring her favorite shade in a new platform. Sollux, similarly, went slowly, enchanted by the places a dish could take him, "It's like something my lusus would make."

"Mmm, this seadweller likes the saltyness. But I will agree about the cake's density. How moist it is is good, but it's quite filling. Karkat took mental notes on this, to be considered the next time they made it. The coffee idea was also something he'd thought about and would soon enough try.
He was glad Sollux liked his cake that much, but ended up being much more interested in what Kanaya thought of her dessert. The cherry wanted to know, just as Gamzee did since he tuned in, if it was fulfilling of her blood needs. It was pretty easy to make, and with the right equipment not very time consuming, so they thought it could be a clever way to give rainbow drinkers a sly way of having blood in public without offending. After all, wasn't sorbet as colorful as that?
Gamzee turned back to Tavros and the chocolate dessert, completely forgetting about his own plate in favor of technical details. "Maybe more cocoa? I wonder..." He went to the kitchen with his plate of it, sprinkling some of the bitter powder over it. He'd hoped the darker kind of chocolate would counteract some of the sweetness, but maybe not enough? Perhaps less ripe berries for their tartness would help, he thought. Taking a bite with the extra cocoa mixed in, absorbed into the cake and sauces lightly, he thought it was less sweet but not overpowered, so headed back in. "Here, Tav, is this any better?" The copperblood seemed like the one to ask since he liked chocolate so much, and so he offered him a bite after sitting again.

"It is very good," Kanaya said at last, meeting their expectant stares with a slight smile, "But I do not think there is enough blood. It would be nice to eat this instead of try to sneakily drink blood out and about, so perhaps upping the amount will make things better."
Tavros, seeing his matesprit return, was cleansing his tongue of the sweetness of the chocolate with some of his wine, even if that was a little sweet, too. Taking his fork, he pulled off a piece of the newly de-sweetened cake, and took a bite. It was certainly better than his slice, and he nodded enthusiastically, "Mm hmm," With a grin, he chewed and swallowed, "Much better. I like it plenty." He figured that it would be better to sell something that was still pretty sweet in relatively small portions, but he didn't voice that, figuring that Gamzee and Karkat knew what they were doing.
"Ooh, they should try making a cake or something like that coffee we drank at that cafe," Vriska paused, trying to remember the names but coming up short, "Do you remember what they were called, Marchie? A helluva impression for primarily tea-drinkers."

"Oh, mine was a blueberry blend, they said, with the caramel in it... and yours was a raspberry? But yours was cold. I think that could be quite good, yes."
Gamzee was happy with the results and traded plates with Tavros, indeed, taking the whole rest of the cake to improve it. He was kind of particular about what he sent out. Lucky for him he was normally so relaxed so that perfectionistic streak wouldn't stress him too much. Eventually he came back once he was satisfied.
After Kanaya's analysis, Karkat nodded, turning to Sollux to ask a question he was interested in. "Do you think the cake is best on it's own or could there be an accent brought out with some extra? I didn't want to overpower it so I only added the honey cream, but I wonder if that was too plain. But a berry sauce seemed too strong for it." On the same streak he thought of what could be added to the ice cream besides for the additional blood. "Does blood taste good with other flavors? You like it in your tea fine, but going on the ice cream bent, what about caramel or some small fruits? It could even make it look more normal to anyone unsuspecting." They were certainly taking this very seriously.

"Actually, it does," She seemed immediately interested, and Kanaya set down her spoon to relay her knowledge of blood, "It depends on the hue. Colderbloods are sweet, akin to a berry if you would like a comparison, but most rainbowdrinkers, to my knowledge, cannot drink anything past, say, a violet. It is just too sweet, and is better mixed with something else. I frequent blues because I can mix them or just drink them plain, and they are more readily available. Midtones tend to be earthier...ah...kind of like a plain vegetable? To me, they taste almost more savory, and the metallic aftertaste is strong, just like colderbloods, but I like it." She shrugged, "And warmbloods are bitter! Like dark chocolate or unsweetened coffee. As you can imagine, it is difficult to get anything like that, and the only time I had warmer blood in actual food was in a soup. I think it was brown blood, actually. Warmbloods lack that metallic taste, too, it is kind of sad, actually."
"Yes, yes, right, it was something different, that is for sure." Vriska would love to see what kinds of coffee drinks the duo could come up with. They had certainly switched her over to being more open to sweet foods.

The pair certainly had a lot of small ideas and some good ones they could perfect and use now. Gamzee thought the tangerine cake might be workable for something smaller too, maybe they would try more cupcake sort of portions instead of slicing up cakes. Perhaps they could pole the Rialans and see what they preferred as well... Though pie, he supposed, he would still need to try and make, if just because that's what was expected.
"I suppose I will have to go around and see what kinds of coffee there are so I can experiment," Karkat mused to the pair. "You'll have to tell me what coffee shops you saw around town so I can go and inspect them tomorrow."
He took in what there was to know about blood, Gamzee remembering all that from his previous talk. "Well, there's some we can use, but since you're the only rainbow drinker we've seen so far, you'll be our only taster. If there were more with other preferences we could try other flavors. Unless you're ever interested in something other than your favorite." Karkat wondered what his blood tasted like randomly, since it was so bright, would it be completely bitter or just totally different? He wasn't going to ask though, thinking that probably wouldn't be all that polite or appropriate.

"Oh..actually," She seemed sheepish, almost ashamed for mentioning it, "I do, from time to time, wonder what your blood tastes like? I suppose it could be considered inappropriate for asking, but I do wonder! It could be incredibly bitter to the point that it is bad, or it could be something unlike anything rainbowdrinkers have ever tasted before. As much as I am curious, I do doubt that you would be too gungho about having fangs sunk into your flesh someplace or letting blood for my inquisitive nature's sake."
As dinner was starting to wind down and leftover desserts were piled away into the icebox, Tavros could not help but wonder if he and Gamzee needed to talk. There were some pressing matters at hand, like the meeting and just what their quadrants meant, but he needed to talk about getting back to Starnette at the end of their trip. If they could get there at all.
