The poem was kind of wonky and silly, but the meaning behind it was what made Tavros smile widely and chirp in excitement. "Wow! That was still way better than anything I would have, uh, come up with," He acknowledged, kissing his cheek as he nuzzled him again, though the action was mostly to hide his blushing face. The poem may not have been some type of award winning piece of work, but it meant more to Tavros than any dessert. "You treat me so wonderfully. In comparison to, uh, past relationships, you..." He trailed off, failing to find the right words, then he shook his head and sat up. The brownblood took Gamzee's face in both hands as he planted a deep kiss to his lips, purring throughout, "I am just grateful for you as more than a matesprit, but as a person. Your insight, your emotions, the cute little way you laugh, means so much to me."
Kanaya nodded, wondering what Borina would think; the woman was not much older than Kanaya, and she was lively, if not mystical at times. "I am sure Borina would be alright with assisting us, perhaps. As a business owner, I can understand if she would be opposed to loitering about at times, but if she is a high blood, chances are her living situation is even better than this government mandated apartment."

His face turned completely purple up to the very tips of his ears and he pulled his hair out of it's tie to hide in it partially. Covering his eyes with his hands in embarrassment, he giggled and smiled bashfully at Tavros's praise. "Aww, Tav! You're making me blush too much! I'm happy you feel that way." Eventually after curling up in a fit of quiet elated giggles, he relaxed, sitting up next to Tavros. Pulling the brown blood in for an encompassing embrace, he pressed a big kiss to his love's cheek and purred sweetly. "I love you, too, so much! You're such a good friend and matesprit and everything." He didn't really know how else he could express how much he was feeling right now, how light and happy it was just to hold the copperblood close and hear such kind words. It was one of the nicest things he'd ever been told.
"Well then, we've got a bit of a plan for what to do next," Karkat stretched, with a small yawn and looked back at the book he was essentially translating into modern script. He started writing again, slower and not so hurried. "Is there anything else any of you think we need to talk about?"

Tavros giggled happily at the blushing, finding Gamzee exceptionally adorable when he blushed and was so flustered. Rarely did Gamzee look so embarrassed, as it was normally Tavros who was quick to become timid and shy. He kissed his cheek, then his jaw and his neck, pressing his face against his chest and taking in a long breath. After a while of cuddling, he questioned, "Do you want to start, uh, cooking now? I am hungry, what about you?"
Vriska shook her head, not finding anything particularly important to go over. Kanaya, also, was not too concerned about much, hoping to present talking to Borina to Tavros and Gamzee.
Eventually, Sollux returned, unlocking the door and shutting it behind him. The meeting was intriguing, to say the least, and he sighed heavily as he walked inside, watching as Kanaya stood from her seat, "This government is in shambles."

The purple calmed with the cuddling and his complexion was almost back to normal when he looked at Tavros when he spoke. "Yea!" he smiled brightly. "Let's cook something nice and refreshing. Maybe a curry? Heavy on the flavorfulness, not the spiciness though. We'll have to see what they brought back from market, and what kind of meat and pepper and...." he just kept chattering about food, and different ideas as he scooted with Tavros to the edge of the bed so they could head out into the kitchen.
Eridan glanced up with a little smile at Sollux's return, but quickly returned to note taking. Karkat on the other hand finished the paragraph he was working on before marking his place with a clean scrap of paper. Then he turned toward the architect fully to listen to whatever they would be told. "I think someone else mentioned that, too."

He trotted out with him, excited to see Sollux and learn what he experienced at the meeting. However, the yellow just looked exhausted, and a pang of guilt hit Tavros; this was starting to really take a toll on Sollux.
"There is not some easy way to break the news, so I will just say it," He shed his coat and hung it up, then held up his right wrist, which now ha a silver band around with with magical engravings similar to the ones on Karkat's cell. "They put me on hive arrest."
"This is an outrage!" Vriska snapped, setting aside her work as she stood, her intent being to rip the bracelet off but Sollux stopped her, "Don't get too bent out shape, I'm not the only high blood here."
The jade blood frowned and made space for Sollux to sit beside her on the couch, which he did with pure exhaustion. She curled an arm around his shoulders and he placed one around her waist, and he laid against her side with some irritation in his tone, "Those fucking morons are not as slow as we anticipated. They knew that I checked out all these things with Alice in mind, so they shoved me on hive arrest before I could take out any more information."
Kanaya raked a hand through his hair, "And what justification did they give you? Surely they did not say that."
"I am 'a threat to Wonderlandian security, in specifics to Starnetians and the royal purpose.' Which is a fuckton of hogwash but they couldn't very well say 'we hate that you're assisting in dismantling our heavily flawed system.' "

🌀
"...what did you mean when you said you weren't the only highblood? Is that," Eridan pointed at the bracelet with contempt, "some sort of spying mechanism?"
Karkat was even less pleased. "If it's the same magic as my cell, which it looks like from the characters, if we try to get it off him it might burn him, and alert the authorities. Which might be what they want just so they can cram us all in barred hives for the rest of our days. Or worse, of course."
He wasn't about to say any more in case Eridan's hypothesis was correct. It wouldn't do to talk about plans if things were being watched and listened in on.
Gamzee, not sure what to do, went to the kitchen and made tea. There was also cooking to do, but he thought Sollux could use the typical offering after returning. He had noticed he took it undiluted so didn't bother bringing cream or sugar with him as he set the cup where Sollux could reach it before moving away. Sure there would be a little more to talk about, he stuck around instead of disappearing into the kitchen, floating around behind Tavros instead.

He started to nod, then stopped himself and placed his hand with the bracelet behind his back. "Not that I know of," He lied, though the remainder of his words were true as he took his tea with a word of thanks, "It goes into effect tomorrow, and if I want to go somewhere, I have to call my assigned Marshall to ensure that it is a place that I am allowed to visit." Sollux picked up his clipboard and a quill, writing the remainder of what he wanted to say without jeopardizing them, 'I am not supposed to tell you how the bracelet works. If I say certain words pertaining to my hive arrest, (words they did not detail to me) then there will be some kind of punishment, usually a burn or a shock. There is a camera inside the bracelet watching pretty much my every move. There are times when it shuts off, but they didn't tell me when. There is a listening device that never shuts off, so if any of you are going to start talking about potential plans, just write them down or use some kind of code. Example:
Gamzee: I'm going to write down a recipe.
In actuality, he's writing down a proposition for a plan or something of that nature. I want all of us to develop an ever changing code system to ensure that 1) we sound as normal as possible and 2) they can't catch on.
Sorry for this bullshit. I'll try to keep the bracelet hidden as often as possible, but there isn't anything I can do since I don't know the incantation to take it off.'
Sollux held the sheet up to everyone so they could read it, meanwhile keeping up casual conversation so it didn't seem weird with the audio. "This isn't too bad, right? It's not like I'm completely stuck."
Kanaya caught on quickly, reading the clipboard as she answered. "I suppose. This seems like impeding upon your freedom."
"They haven't taken /all/ my freedoms, Kan. I can still drink tea, they haven't taken all the Starnetian out me."
Vriska crossed her arms, "I prefer this to any other alternatives. He could have been labeled a terrorist."
Tavros, guilty that his journey had such negative effects on someone that wasn't even supposed to be this involved, spoke, "I am so sorry about this, Sollux."
He shook his head, setting down the clipboard as he took a sip of his tea, "It could have been worse. They could've jailed me. At least now when I stay holed up in my hive, Kanaya can't get mad at me for it."

This has got to be completely illegal somehow, Karkat thought, but then again they probably made /loopholes/ for it. It was entirely aggravating and he had a hard time controlling his temper but he managed while Sollux was writing. He laughed a little at Sollux's joke, it was funny, but he couldn't really feel any mirth at that point. Not with that magic that he had thought he had left in that cell so close again.
"Well, now you just get to be part of more of our crazy antics," Eridan commented. He was trying to think of a way to impart some knowledge, but then wondered if they should just in case.
"More like go crazy from our antics," Karkat muttered in response. "They're driving me up a wall. Maybe we can keep each other sane this way." This was what he hoped was an obvious lie to the rest of them. Truly he'd never been happier than with them all.
"Is there...anything in particular you'd like for dinner?" Gamzee asked Sollux. He'd had a hard time and the purpleblood wanted to make up for it in the small way he could. Picking his book up off the table, he figured he could find something he could modify at least to suit his purposes for dinner if Sollux had a suggestion.

"Just because I'm on hive arrest doesn't mean it's an invitation for you to get any cattier, Karkat. ...No pun intended, really." Sollux sipped his tea, not quite as bothered by his hive arrest than one would think. He didn't mind not leaving his house, it just bugged him that it was all because of a noble goal. He knew that things could have been much worse, though, so he was thankful for just this. "Dinner? Oh. I guess it is edging on towards suppertime," The yellowblood wasn't even sure what he wanted at first, and after some consideration, he questioned, "Could you fix something with honey? I'm not so finicky as to reduce your choices any further than that."
"Speaking of honey," Kanaya stood, rushing off to her tote to rummage through it before producing the box of honey cookies, presenting them to him with a broad smile, "I picked these up for you while Karkat and I were out."
Sollux took the box with slightly widened eyes, surprised that he had even been a thought while they were shopping, "Whoa, shit. Thanks. Where is all this kindness coming from? Did you all anticipate my punishment today?"
Tavros smiled, starting to feel at ease with Sollux acknowledging that they all appreciated him and wanted to spoil him some, "If that was the case, I think Kanaya would have done much more than, uh, gotten you honey cookies."

The mutant chuckled at the mention of spoiling Sollux. He didn't even know. The pun, though not intentional was pretty good too, and he descended into a fit of giggles. He didn't want to mention what he had planned for Sollux's eventual, and hopefully relatively subtle, future spoiling. Just to keep it a surprise.
Gamzee was contemplative at first, not knowing what he could prepare dinnerwise with honey. Dessert, sure, but.... hmm... maybe Tavros's biscuits? Yes, they could forgo the soup and just have breakfast food for dinner! That was always fun. "Yea! Tav, let's make your biscuits." He crossed into the kitchen, thinking of what else could go well with honey. More pancakes? But that might be too much bread for one meal... maybe just sausage and eggs.
Once Tavros had followed, he pulled down flour and what else he thought they'd need. "What do you think about breakfast for dinner? Honeyed biscuits maybe and then whatever else we can come up with?"

"Ooh, that sounds good," He nodded excitedly, happy that he could incorporate a food from Alternia, even if soup wasn't involved. "Kneading it all takes a while, though, so I will try to be quick." Tavros smiled up at him, glad that he was helping his matesprit out in the kitchen, but it also made him think of them both one day living someplace and making breakfast together. He kissed his shoulder, purring as he poured flour and a pinch of salt into a bowl, "This is going to be great."
Sollux leaned back in his seat, "So. How were things while I was out?"
"Uneventful," Kanaya answered carefully, but she gestured to the piles that were finished and the heaping amount that they still had yet to accomplish. Sollux pinched the bridge of his nose, "Good gracious."
"We made good progress, though."
"Thankfully. What I wouldn't give for a couple gold lilies."
"Oh!" The jadeblood clapped her hands, suddenly remembering, "/That/ is what those flowers are called!"
Sollux furrowed his brows, "What? What about gold lilies?"
"I have been trying to remember those flowers that you liked in your teas and waters for so long now, and the name just escaped me."

"Mhmm!" Gamzee hummed, turning the oven on to fry some small sausages and make scrambled eggs. Wherever he could cook felt much more like home, and cooking next to Tavros made his favorite activity even better. Gently he bumped his matesprit's hip with his own, sending him a fond smile. He looked at Tavros's biscuit ingredients and wondered something. "Do you think we could put some fruit into them? Instead of some of the liquid? Or would plain be better do you think? They are your biscuits after all," he managed to fit in a quick peck to the copper's forehead among his own chatter.
"Gold lilies, huh?" Karkat mused. He thought he might have seen something somewhere that had that mentioned.
"Oh! There is a tea I like with those," Eridan mentioned. It was a floral oolong he liked from their favorite island. "I wonder if I have any..." he wandered into the respiteblock with their bags to go and look, coming up with some and returning in triumph. "Yes, there's a few cups worth left. After you finish that cup feel free to have some, I have more back in the Screechlands." He tossed the small pouch to Sollux, settling back on the floor with Vriska.

Fruit and honey just reminded him of the strawberries and honey back at the ball, and how sweet they were. While Tavros liked them plenty, he did have a fondness for sweets and figured that having the biscuits with fruit in them would disperse some of that saccharine taste, "I think fruit would be good," He nodded, pouring in a bit of the milk and the slightest hint of cinnamon, "What kinds do we have? More berries?"
His dual colored eyes narrowed just slightly at the pouch of tea as he caught it, glad to have his favorite flower with him but somewhat skeptical. "Alright, what are you lot up to?" Sollux questioned, peering at them all with a quirked eyebrow.
The blueblood on the floor pressed her chin to her palm, elbow on her knee as she sat cross legged, "What are you getting at?"
"This is a common tactic employed by Kanaya. She'll be much nicer to me than usual and then ask for something from me that I would not normally give."
She crossed her arms, "I am not as awful as he projects."

While the other parts of breakfast were cooking, Gamzee checked the fridge for what fruit they had. "Yep, hell of a lot of berries... oh, yea, that cake... Oh, Karkat must be getting creative with all this sort of stuff," he mused. "Cute how much he likes food, huh?" There were some extra blueberries he didn't think would go with his cake plans, so he got those out. "How about blueberries? They always go well with whatever." They'd be better mashed, he decided, so poured some in a bowl after washing them to be pulverized, squashing the fruits with a wooden spoon until they were a homogenized thick liquid. "Here, they should mix in well now," he handed the bowl off to Tavros and went back to his pan.
"I think, perhaps, that we are all just paying you back for what you have already done," stated Karkat. "You're an equivocal part of our little group, after all. And you wouldn't normally do all this, now would you? We've corrupted you," he grinned.

There was still plenty left over in the fridge, and Tavros giggled, wondering if they were going to ever finish that delicious cake, or even the chicken from before. "I think we should have a leftovers night," He hummed, thanking him for the blueberries as he poured the mashed fruits into the bowl, mixing them with one hand into the berries until they had a lightly purplish blue hue, "We may have needed more food, but there are still leftovers. I think, uh, it would be fun to have a sort of, feast of pre-cooked meals, heheh."
Sollux nibbled on a cookie with a continually suspicious look. Karkat was correct, he wouldn't have normally done any of this, but then again, one does not normally get a call from their moirail stating that the new Alice needs help. "It wasn't like I had much of a choice," He complained, "Kan isn't really the type of lady you say 'no' to. I should have known from the beginning that getting roped up in all this Alice nonsense was going to screw me over." He waved around his partially-eaten cookie, "The only good thing of this nonsense is the food and the fact that I don't have to go to work while I'm on hive arrest."
2014-09-07 23:20:42 -

"Yea... though we can always use the chicken for cold sandwiches, and mashed potatoes are always good. I think I have to be less creative, so we can finish off what we already have," he smiled bashfully. "Maybe I like cooking /too/ much. But it's brought us all together, huh? Everyone needs to eat." Though before he had felt like his contribution didn't matter much, the constant appreciation of what he brought to their little group made him feel more a part of everything. By no means was he getting cocky about it, still he thought he was replaceable with any other cook with a decent sense for food, but it did make him feel better.
"The food is excellent," Karkat smiled. "Sure, yea, you don't have to work," he said with a note of sarcasm as he gestured at all the papers and books left to read and translate. He thought it was kind of funny to be blaming Kanaya for everything when hadn't she got sucked into all of this by Alice, too? Hadn't they all? "I wonder what we're in for this evening. What do you think they could be doing with biscuits and honey?" he mused.
Eridan, sensing the lazing about attitude of relaxation, decided lying on the floor was a pretty enticing idea. Following it up with resting his head on Vriska's unoccupied leg. There wasn't much to say with the yellow and cherry chatting back and forth, so he just played with the new bracelet a little, tracing the designs absently with a small smile.

He nodded curtly, having taken off the sweater so he could work without any hindrances. Tavros was kneading the dough now, his little hands packing a surprising amount of force against the breading. It reminded him of his old home like this, making his own biscuits while he communed with the animals. That was part of what was so stifling about the city - there were hardly any animals to talk to, aside from the pigeons and the squirrels, but they become repetitive after a while and then there wasn't much of a point to it. "Ah...I miss Alternia a little bit," He murmured while he kneaded, "I hated most everything else about it, but I did like the forest I lived near to. I would make soup or bake bread and call in deer or raccoons or any manner of animals in. I would have spent more time with the animals if I was not working, uh, so often then. Tulgey reminds me a lot of my old home."
"All of that is reasonable in comparison to my line of work," Which was a lie but Sollux didn't mind some friendly banter from time to time. "I don't care what they get up to with biscuits and honey, honestly. So far, Makara's made everything perfectly. He could serve me mud and I'd still eat it."
The pirate looked down, a questioning sound leaving her before she shifted some to accommodate him. Teasingly, Vriska pinched the bridge of his nose, "And who said you could take up residence on my leg, Ampora?"

"That's cute, just like you," Gamzee giggled lightly. Tavros looked quite at home making his biscuits, and cooking together warmed his heart. He mixed and flipped the food he was preparing, thinking about Tulgey wistfully. "We'll have to keep the doors and windows open during nice weather so you can have your chats with the critters when we get back home. It'll be nice to have some friendly company out there." Eventually he started humming a little of the tune from Alternia that Tavros had first sung in the library as he cooked.
"That's true, I concur." The compliments to the purple had Karkat smiling. It was nice of the yellow to say; he didn't know if Sollux was typically so nice either. Such high praise would have their 'barbarian' blushing he was sure. The troll could be much to modest about his passion. "If we all get through this he's going to have to do something with that talent of his, otherwise it would be such a waste."
The sea dweller just smiled, twitching his earfins a little. "It was empty and looked so forlorn I felt I had to," he said, voice sounding funny from her nose pinch. He giggled a little at the funny sound.

He smiled, "You do not mind the animals come in and out as I please?" Tavros could imagine why that would be an issue with others, but he supposed that it wouldn't with Gamzee, who was incredibly laid back and sweet. "Ahh...I have always wanted a moobeast or a cluckbeast. Could you imagine? We could, uh, have all the fresh milk and cream and eggs we wanted. Oh! I wonder if we could figure out how to make cheese?" Tavros wished he could have lived on a farm at some point, just for the animals and all the wonders that entailed. "I think that would be fun. I just hope Wocky does not try to eat them."
"Oh, yes, without a doubt," Kanaya piped up, "Let's find him a place in Undlegire; I have not found a place yet that has produce so cheap. Or most anything, really."
"In comparison to Starnette, /any/ place is cheap," Sollux groaned, "This government pay is really the only thing keeping me tied to this place. You should see my check, Karkat. I could buy you whole libraries."
She lightly smacked his shoulder once she released his nose, "Untrue, you dastardly barracuda." Vriska traced her fingertips over his jaw and chin, "You needn't half-assed excuses to get closer to me."

"I think he'd be fine, he's got all those nasty birds to eat, yea? Rabbit mentioned he'd find them delicious. He can have the whole Dewgrass Fields to hunt in, and the moobeast could eat the grass there. The cluckbeast would probably like the bugs, and maybe some of the fruit in the grove." Having even more readily available food would be good. "And I think we could make cheese. Something in this book about it probably. Otherwise I think I could find something," he smiled.
The cherryblood didn't exactly know what to make of that comment of Sollux's, and didn't want to presume anything, barely keeping from flushing scarlet. "Well, that's quite enticing. Too bad they won't give me a government job so I could bum around here and just use all they paid me for exactly that purpose." Was that flirtatious, he wondered? Insinuating he'd stay with him for books? He was going to have to learn how to play these games better.
The fit of giggles Eridan was experiencing only worsened at her words. He purred quietly just for her at the pleasant scratches and raised a hand to mirror the action. "Good to know I can be lazy with getting affection now, not have to be creative to get some," he smirked amiably.

Where would Tavros be without Gamzee's resourcefulness? It seemed he had some type of plan for most anything and Tavros was more than appreciative of that fact. He delivered the last few kneads to the dough, jumping back to an earlier point when Gamzee spoke, "Wocky eats those dangerous birds?" The birds had to have been its size or larger, but he supposed with those sharp teeth and talons, the Jabberwocky could eat most anything.
The elephant in the room was suffocating, but Sollux, so blissfully ignorant to his own implications, just finished his cookie, "You can't laze around here, you're lazing around with the original pair of lovebirds."
Unable to contain her laughter, no matter how hard she tried, Kanaya finally spoke, "And you say /I/ am the flirtatious one! Darling, my flirts are happenstance and a complete accident, yours seem crafted for greatness."
His dual colored eyes slid to Kanaya, then to Karkat confusedly, then back to her, "You lost me."
She rolled her eyes, enjoying the argumentative element to their relationship that had carried on from their waxing black days, "You misunderstand me. I am implying that you need not half-assed excuses but full ones. In short," Pulling away from him fully, Vriska made sure his head didn't thump on the floor but, otherwise, she was not touching him at all, "Better attempts are necessary."

"I guess so. I didn't think anything would but that's what he said, and I guess he knows all sorts of stuff, so... and if Wocky can he'd make the place a lot safer. Oh, I forgot about those giant ants. But the moobeast can probably stomp 'em if they get bothersome, right? Hmm... I wonder how long it would take to fly from Tulgey to Undlegire..." Gamzee supposed he'd find out eventually. The life they had planned out so far was really solidifying as an idea, and gaining elaborateness. It was nice to think about, and he hoped it worked out that way, though he could imagine things might change depending on what happened here or while he was gone over there.
"Ahem," Karkat turned back to his book and writing stiffly, so no one could see the slight blush leaking onto his face. Goddammit Kanaya, he'd really been controlling it until she'd spoken. "Uh, I have a direct quote, straight from the Chief Architect himself..." he cleared his throat formally, "Quote: 'You should see my check, Karkat. I could buy you whole libraries,' end quote."
Eridan's face positively plummeted when she moved away. He'd been so comfortable and now he felt so foolish. "Oh," his fins turned vaguely lilac as he turned away, trying to think of some better excuse. The only one he could think of was too morbid. "I don't wanna say my better excuse. It'll make shit too sad."

"Probably not too long." Getting from Tulgey to Undlegire on foot seemed like it would take more time than Tavros had patience for. He figured that with flying, it would drastically shorten the time, but he wouldn't mind spending hours in the sky. He smiled, spreading the dough out with a roller before cutting them into thick circles, " 'Zee, honey, could you hang me, uh, the pan for the biscuits?"
Sollux looked even more puzzled, "So? What's this direct quote have to do with anything?"
"You are so dense, it would be endearing if it was not frustrating first."
"I did not think that counted as flirting. I was merely making a statement about the humongous as motherfucking trunkbeasts my check is."
Kanaya shook her head in disbelief, "Do not take it personally, Karkat, he is usually this stupid."
Now she was confused. She had thought that her joking demeanor was obvious, but it seemed that Eridan was not able to decipher it. Vriska furrowed her eyebrows, arms crossed as she reached out to pat his thigh, "Marchie, geez, you don't have to jump to the saddest conclusion your thinkpan conjures up!"

He purred a little at the pleasant pet name, and reached the baking pan Tavros wanted with ease and handing it to him with a smile. As soon as the biscuits were done the rest of the food would be too.
"Oh, no harm done, Kanaya. I figured he didn't mean anything. Though really do you often pose hypotheticals of buying people whole libraries? Which seems rather specified toward my person seeing as I obviously love books. Of course you could just be using libraries as a measurement of value I suppose." Karkat was rambling a little and didn't know how to feel about the whole situation at all, thus rendering him even more verbose than normal. "As they are undeniably truly valuable resources and you've been to one a few times potentially at a greater than normal occurrence since all this Alice nonsense started interfering in your daily activities."
"Well you said I'd need a better excuse," Eridan crossed his arms, too. "And it was the first thing that came to mind. I couldn't help it that it was a sad thing."

Washing his hands, he chirped in a lively fashion and smiled up at Gamzee, "This was fun!" He added, "I will not usually impede upon your, uh, culinary domain, 'Zee, but it was enjoyable to make something alongside you."
He shifted in his seat, looking at Karkat, then Kanaya, then down at his lap. It was obvious that he was trying to come up with some type of conclusion about this new information presented, but he finally stated with a lean back into his seat, "The fact that you two are reading so heavily into a statement that I uttered purely to put in perspective the amount I am given by the government is distressing. I had made the comment about 'whole libraries' to put emphasis on the monetary value of the stupid check I get every two weeks. I was hoping the tie-in to something Karkat was interested in would emphasize the point further but it seems you two knuckleheads can't get that past your, admittedly juvenile, thick skulls."
Dramatically, she pressed a hand to her chest, trying to resist the urge to laugh, "My bloodpusher! How it weeps in the anguish of this verbal onslaught!"
"Your mind always goes to the most morbid or the most depressing thing ever."
