Gamzee was quite willing to talk with his beloved, giving him little kisses or caresses whenever he could when it wouldn't be too obvious or extraneous. Something, he thought, was weighing on his matesprit's mind, and he wanted to know if he could provide comfort in some way. Personally he didn't want to return to Starnette, or felt they particularly needed to at the moment. Perhaps they really should travel more before hand. The quadrants issue Tavros could be having he wasn't really picking up on.
The cherry blooded troll laughed at the coincidence of thought. "Actually I was just wondering the same thing. I'm curious too, so, later maybe we should see!" He really did want to know, and since Kanaya was also curious, that worked out splendidly.
Carala was so pleased with how the evening had went, and how happy she'd seen her grandson and his friends. Her hug to him before they all left for the hotel again was returned with much joy. Maybe they weren't all that good at expressing it but they were both extremely thankful that they had found one another.

Kanaya felt that she should explain that letting blood, for any reason, was still going to be painful and that perhaps Karkat shouldn't be so enthusiastic in allowing her to feed from him. In any case, she agreed and stated that it would probably be best within their hotel room and under a controlled setting; with Sollux nearby, he could gauge if things were getting too out of control, if at all. There was a lot that could go wrong and Kanaya wanted to make sure that there was minimal pain and discomfort.
The return to the hotel was filled with content chatter, Vriska happy to be stuffed full of cooked seafood and dessert, and was now ready to curl up with her matesprit in bed and lounge about. Kanaya had a full plate between Karkat and sketches, (as well as punching her moirail for being so dense) and Tavros wished for nothing more than to give a full rundown of his concerns and feelings to Gamzee at that present moment.
In their hotel room, Tavros sat on his bed after saying 'good evenings' to his friends, kicking off his shoes and shedding his sweater. He seemed a little detached, but he was mostly just thinking. "Hey, uh. 'Zee? Can we talk for a bit...?"

The mutant was sure any blood letting was going to hurt, but it would be temporary and he was much too curious at this point to care much. So once in the hotel he made himself comfortable, leaving Kanaya to herself until she felt ready. He was pretty sure he was, so sat and read on the bed and made a few notes of what to change or experiment with recipes.
"Of course love, we can talk long as you like." Gamzee, hanging his coat off and removing shoes, stretched a little before sitting on the end of the bed next to Tavros, opening up his side for him to lean against if that's what Tavros wanted to do. "What's up? You worried again about leaving? We could always not go back right away, go explorin' the rest of the world instead and leave the government to destabilize more... though I might be motherfuckin' idealistic with all that."

Kanaya was not sure if she could do it. It was not exactly like feeding, necessarily - she wouldn't be hitting any major veins to gather blood, probably just give him a little nick on his hand or arm and lap the blood up that way. Not like she had a real container to put it in or anything. Sollux sat in bed beside her, doing his best not to look in her direction as she tried to somewhat nervously immerse herself in sketching.
"I just. Um..." Laying his head against Gamzee's chest, he fiddled with the hem of his dress, attempting to organize his thoughts. "Starnette is definitely the hugest worry for me at the moment. Thinking about, uh, returning after the meeting makes me exceedingly nervous. I fear that something dreadful will occur on the journey back - a lot can happen in four hours." He rubbed at the back of his neck, "But, I mean...what other option do we have? Do you, really think the government will turn to shakiness if we are not there? And once the Knights return, the protection in Starnette will undoubtedly increase, meaning it will be harder for us to get anything done."

After writing a number of issues and fixes down, Karkat glanced over at the nervous Kanaya. He sighed, not having wanted to make her feel nervous at all; actually the complete opposite. "Kanaya, you don't have to, now or ever if you're not comfortable, okay? I'm not going to mind either way. After all, it might be totally gross and I could be apologizing for being a disgusting mutant." He tried to be funny. It wasn't like he was going to see her any differently afterwards
Holding Tavros's shoulders, he hugged him warmly and kissed the top of Tavros's head. "I forgot about those fuckers... But I did think they were going a little crazy and loosing some control. I suppose we kind of gotta go in that case... but we can't do much about that right now. What the fuck else are you all up and worried about sweetest?" Since they really couldn't plan anything solid on their way back, he thought it would be better to spend their time on worries or thoughts they might be able to work through.

She shook her head, "No, no, I am not exactly uncomfortable for the reason you think. I have not tasted blood directly from a person in sweeps..." It was certainly a different experience. The blood tasted slightly different, and she was a bit worried that the freshness of it would make her feed more, even if Karkat's blood may have been disgusting to her. "It is, I guess, almost the natural way in which to feed, and I just have to get over that hurdle, is all."
"Ah, well...I do not think I entirely understand how quadrants work out here?" He looked more confused than worried now, "With Ms. Corvus, I thought I was taking on a more, uh, pale inflection when I spoke about my worries with her, but she assured me that everything was fine and the moirallegience was akin to best friendship. And while that is true in Alternia, it is considered a form of romance, which is not what I had been intending."

"Oh, well, whatever you're comfortable with, Kanaya." Karkat didn't really mind if she took a little extra. There wouldn't be much anyways from where he'd bleed, she wasn't a monster even if that was popular opinion, and he knew she could control herself. The cherry had the utmost confidence in his friend, and was quite sure he would be absolutely fine in her care. Her moirail was there anyways to prevent any mishaps if something strange did happen.
"I think it's really motherfuckin' complicated," Gamzee started. "It ain't necessarily romantic I guess. More like a sibling you know's always there for you. Sorta like a twin, is how my mum explained it to me once. Like how they just understand each other so well, just by being so in tune. I think Granma just knew you weren't intending anything since the age difference and how motherly she is anyway. Young trolls always complain to their lusii, right? So she's probably just all up and adopted you already sorta." Gamzee smiled, hoping that helped a little.

"Well...There is no time like the present, right, fellows?" She laughed a bit, but was still nervous, and Sollux patted her shoulder as she hopped off the bed. Her interest and curiosity outweighed her cowardice, and Kanaya questioned, "Do you have a preference to where I taste?"
"Things are just much more relaxed here, I guess," Tavros said after a while of mulling over his words, "It is trickier in Alternia. So many little social things that are either okay or not, and sometimes even simple, uh, meaningless mentions can be interpreted the wrong way." He plopped back onto his bed, staring up at the ceiling, "I mean, I suppose I knew that I had not accidentally offended her or anything, it is just a matter of a difference in culture, maybe."

"Not really. I think you'd know better where it would be best." Karkat set aside his book and papers, leaving room where he was sitting for her to join him. He took off his sweater to make it easier, figuring they could just roll up a sleeve of his shirt if need be.
"Yeah, that seems to happen a motherfucking lot," Gamzee mused. "With the purrin' and the gills, and all your Alternian differences. Even Wonderland has differences all over the place, with the east and west bits too, even. Glad I don't live in your Alternia, though, with all that nitpickin' I'd be offending people left and right!" He smiled, leaning back on and elbow and kissing Tavros's cheek. "Any other worries, darling matesprit?"

A thoughtful look came across her expression as she began easing into the naturalness that came with her feeding. Being so close to Karkat, she could actually smell his blood now, an oddly tart scent that only intrigued her more. "I say arm, likely," Kanaya hummed, then looked back to Sollux questioningly, "What do you say, Captor?"
"Someplace inconspicuous if you have mind not to flaunt a wound and the consequent explanation," He shrugged, "I vote somewhere fleshy, like the stomach or thigh or upper arm."
"Ah, right you are! For the sake of skirting intimacy, as I am sure that someone else would love to have their teeth on Karkat's stomach or thigh, heh," She giggled as Sollux rolled his eyes with a slight yellow flush to the cheeks, "Pull your shirt off, dear, I will be a little ways below your shoulder, but not right on the muscle."
The brownblood mustered a soft laugh at that, but something still did not sit right with him, "Well," He pushed stray strands of hair away from his forehead, looking over at Gamzee, "I think it is imperative that we, find a Zodiac member, or members, and have them sit in on that governmental meeting. It is very important that we are specific in what, we stand for, and that they do not get the wrong idea."

Well that exchange had Karkat blushing as well as grimacing. So he grumbled as he removed his shirt. "Kanaya, if you keep talking like that this mutant shit I've got is going to become off limits, no matter how curious we both are." He knew he didn't really mean that, but she was just really good at being really embarrassing.
The mutant was still thin from his time imprisoned, but he was starting to fill out some. Eventually he might even get to be as stocky as his shorter frame looked like it wanted to be. Karkat was glad that at least his ribs didn't stick out in the front, though he had no idea about his back since he couldn't really see that easily. He opened up a shoulder to her, crossing his arms against the slight chill.
Gamzee nodded. "I think that lady who came to see all of us in Starnette mentioned her superior or someone being stationed here. So we just gotta find that motherfucker, whoever they might be..." He thought about any hints she might have given for who they could be. "I think maybe we should look for these lion or horse people? She all up and had code names for herself and a couple others, and it sounded like maybe they were stationed here 'cause the one of 'em was gonna go with her but worked better with the other one? Guess that ain't much more than guessin' at probables though." Now his expression was fiercely contemplative, trying to figure out this newest debacle.

A laugh escaped her as she lifted up Karkat's arm, inspecting it closely, "Calm down, dear, it is all good clean fun. Now, relax, this will only take a second," She felt much less nervous now, -probably because the only two other people within the room were more embarrassed than she- and Kanaya finally located a suitable spot on his arm to feed from. She opted for a scraping of her fangs against his flesh to break skin instead of a puncture, as that would heal quicker and hurt much less. Observing the blood raising to the surface, she scaled her tongue over the small wound, testing the flavor and was reasonably surprised by what she found.
Sollux, noticing that she was spending extra time 'tasting,' barked at her, "You said you were not /feeding,/ Kan."
She laughed again, bright red blood staining her tongue and tinting her lips as she pulled back and gently released Karkat's arm, "You sure quite the stick in the mud. But I must say, your blood, Karkat, is very different than what I imagined..."
He smiled sheepishly, "I suppose our lives will always be ruled by supposes and riddles, huh?" Tavros was beginning to feel better about their current situation and the near future, but he was not sure if everyone else would be alright with going off to the West for some time. It was preferable to going back to Starnette for any reason, since he was one hundred percent certain that something horrible would befall them. But they still needed to help the orphans...he guessed they could garner even more support in the West, where they were practically equals to begin with. He kind of wished they could have taken Borina along with them, he was sure that she probably wanted to visit her homeland at least once. "Maybe the clerk downstairs, uh, has a phone number or something we can utilize for the government. Surely /they/ know about Zodiac, too, and can point us in the right direction."

As soon as she was feeding, or tasting-- Karkat didn't really have the capacity to care that much at that point-- he lost his blush, watching with some fascination. Sollux's bark startled him some, as he'd been lost in the moment and trying to read Kanaya's expressions as she was testing out the flavor of that bright red stuff flowing around his body.
It actually kind of freaked him out that he felt a little disappointed when she stopped. He supposed the sort of companionship and closeness had been nice. These thoughts got pushed away almost immediately as wriggler weakness, and he glanced up. "So I'm not the most bitter thing you've ever tasted, I take it. What is it like, then?" If it tasted like cherries, like the color, he thought he might scream... or at least groan loudly.
"Maybe they're even a part of it," Gamzee mused lightly. Though that might have made the city a little less impartial. "You wanna all up and do that now or just get our chill on for the rest of the evening and worry about all that shit in the morning?" He thought there were trade-offs to both of those options, but didn't really mind what Tavros was more comfortable with. The call might relieve some of the copper's tension, but that would take away from valuable cuddle time. Though he supposed they would have a long time to cuddle in the future if everything worked out the way they hoped it did.

"Not bitter," She agreed, in a considerably wonderful mood now that her curiosity had been sated, and she rummaged through one of Sollux's bags to locate bandages, "And not like cherries, either, if you were concerned! You actually taste very much like a citrus fruit - akin to an orange. Oh! Sollux, you remember those Western oranges we had during the summer?"
He raised a brow, "The kinnows?"
She grinned, fangs slightly red, "Yes! He tastes /exactly/ like a kinnow. I will see if we are able to obtain a kinnow or two. How fascinating," Kanaya gushed, too preoccupied with this new realization to bandage Karkat, as Sollux soon took over the job while trying to ignore her excitement, "To think that even such a hue would taste so wonderful. And there is just the tiniest hint of a metallic aftertaste. Ah...It would probably taste perfect in tea..."
"May as well get it over with," Tavros decided, slowly moving from his cuddling with Gamzee to put on proper clothing. It would bother him until he actually took care of it, and he figured that the quicker they got some things done, the more time they could devote to relaxation.

Karkat thanked Sollux once he was bandaged and put his shirt back on. He was amused by the rainbow drinker's enthusiasm more than anything else, not all that disturbed. "Good to know, I suppose. Well, if ever we're in some desperate situation where you need blood at least we know mine is acceptable. ...unlike yours, you bitter high blood," the citrus mutant poked Sollux playfully in the arm. Hearing about the kinnow flavor, that brought him to the conclusion that it might be a perfect way to hide blood in that ice cream solution they'd mocked up. Since perhaps they'd be similar colors, and taste nearly the same regardless of blood or not. A perfect disguise, he thought.
As Tavros dressed, Gamzee stretched, straightening up a little and sticking his shoes back on his feet to go with the copperblood to the desk down stairs. He smiled lazily at his matesprit, kind of zoning out as he waited patiently. "Do you think smaller desserts would be best? Easier to pack up and shit probably..." he thought aloud, not really all there.

"The bitterness is taken with great glee," Sollux replied, giving a brief pat to Karkat's shoulder as he returned to his bed and stretched his legs out in front of him, "There have been many taste tests in the past. Yellow blood is, apparently ,not an acquired taste and I will be, as quoted, 'used only in the most dire of circumstances.' "
The rainbowdrinker so quoted made a face, "I have tried many a time to ingest his blood to some degree out of curiosity. Alas, he is but bitter and disheartening."
"You sound so disappointed."
"Blood is so bothersome," Kanaya sighed, "The best blood is in Starnette. It does not take one of the scholarly bunch to understand why that is troublesome to an Undlegirian."
Tiny desserts would not only be easier to pack, but Tavros thought them to be more aesthetically pleasing, "They will sell better, I think," He mused, "Small things are often viewed as cute. There are not many individuals impervious to adorable appearances, so the treats would definitely sell! People would be prone to buy more especially because they are tiny - they will usually receive more for a lower price." He shrugged, laughing as he pulled on his shoes, "If you become especially popular, you could look into catering."

🌀
Karkat found that confusing. Maybe he was just ignorant of something here, but it didn't make sense to him unless the reason was something dark and deceitful by the upper class. "I wouldn't have thought many rainbow drinkers would live in Starnette... why is the best blood there then? Rather than somewhere more accessible.... Starnette isn't the nicest place, after all," he said a bit bitterly. He could see little good about the capitol and especially it's police force. Though by what he'd heard other police forces weren't that much better in certain cities.
"After all that officer that came up to us was practically treating it like a crime to carry blood around and I didn't think it was illegal. I was actually kind of close to going off on him if the consequences wouldn't have been ridiculous. Fucking asshole..." He suddenly remembered how Kanaya had reacted and giggled some, "though you did tell him off pretty well, even if he didn't understand any of it."
Cute and small made Gamzee immediately think of Tavros, and he giggled some. Though the line of thought also made him want to scowl from what had gone on in the past because of it. He could understand completely Vriska's interest in protecting him from wandering eyes, since obviously he did, too. He just had such little leeway in such matters because of the laws and his color. Gamzee tried pushing these thoughts from his mind though, since it wouldn't do any good to dwell and get frustrated.
"That's a fantasic idea there, Tav! I think Karbro and I can whip up smaller shit pretty easy. Maybe even get more creative since it won't take so much to make smaller things." Obviously the cakes they'd made could be converted to cupcakes, and even pie could probably be made in small increments like that... one serving in miniature form like that, pretty cute, he thought. And teacakes were always small... There were so many good ideas!

Kanaya had nearly forgotten that Karkat did not know the minutiae to which highbloods manipulated lowerbloods or the Problem Castes in general, and she smiled much in the way a mother or older sibling does when explaining something too painful to bear. "You see, Karkat, dearest, blood is able to be bought and sold in the same way any other item is to be purchased. But, as you did recall, the policetroll was none too excitable about my bag and automatically assumed that I had blood. That is on the basis of a stereotype," She sat on the edge of the bed, crossing her legs elegantly, if only to have something to do, "Blood is, generally, expensive. Well," Her brows furrowed, "Let me rephrase. The blood itself is not too terribly priced, but the sales taxes imposed upon the item itself /is./ It is but another way to control us Problems like puppets. It was the same with paint for violets when they still required it - the item was not too expensive, but the taxes were. Thus, rainbowdrinkers, and rainbowdrinkers' sympathizers often steal to receive the blood we need to survive. It has become a stereotype that blood consumers are an underhanded sort, the kind to steal what appears easily accessible. Truth be told, Starnette has delicious blood from healthy donors, very unlike the insignificant selections one may find in smaller places that are from unhealthy donors with too much cholesterol or a disease of the blood sugar or even blood drained from a recently deceased troll. It is fresh and stored properly for optimal taste, which only adds to the taxes." The jadeblood laid on her back on the bed, staring up at the ceiling, "Mass feeding is illegal, and while I could, in theory, feed in private, the concern is still there. The punishment for illegal feeding on someone for private use, whether they are a donor or not is an immediate execution. I would be considered a threat to Wonderlandian security and swiftly dealt with."
"It is good to see you putting your talents into something so worthwhile," Tavros beamed, holding out his hand for Gamzee's when he was ready, "I am awfully proud of you, 'Zee. You, uh, have done a lot of growing in the time that we have spent travelling and meeting new people." It warmed his chest to know that his matesprit had made great strides in person growth in this journey. It was more than dismantling a faulty foundation on which the government was built, it was also a matter of restructuring past thoughts of one's self and one's blood color within the society that had been constructed. Tavros could fully understand the steps taken, as he had gone through something mildly similar in his time in Wonderland after, in his world, being just a lowblood.

Karkat carefully took all of that in. He could feel his temperature rising and he decided being horizontal was probably best. So he lay down and rubbed his eyes probably more harshly than necessary. "I do not feel like being coherent right now. Or maybe I will just rant in my head. Yeah. The fuck is the matter with this goddamn place and these..." Stopping himself, he sighed, willing himself calm. How could these people... he just couldn't understand how they were the same species.
"...Really?" Gamzee took his hand as soon as it was held out to him. He hadn't consciously felt all that different over time. It was probably a lot easier for Tavros and the others to notice if he'd changed at all. Maybe he wasn't that cowardly? Now he was kind of trying to figure out what was all that different about himself. He was still terrified of the police...insults he still ignored the same. All he could see was that he'd been given opportunities to actually do something and had of course leapt at them. So he just smiled awkwardly at the praise as they walked to the front desk. "Well thanks, Tavbro."

Sollux could understand his frustrations - for someone that was locked away, virtually oblivious to the outside world, this news was shocking. For himself and Kanaya, it was just a way of a life, a hurdle to get past. He could only imagine how rough her daily life had to have been. Even as moirails, he only knew what she told him, but he saw with his own, dual colored eyes the way others treated Kanaya within Starnette, and it made him a little less irritated that she had moved on to Undlegire. At least there, she was not under the threat of being killed for something stupid every day, even if there were pockets of hemoist people and the local government was still, largely, Starnetian.
His smile weaned awkwardly, "I am sorry. That must have been weird, what I just said," Tavros hadn't meant for it to be strange, but Gamzee, to him at least, seemed more comfortable in his own skin. Perhaps the opportunities allowed it to begin with, but with the realization that there was a support system came the comfort of being just himself. "But I feel as thought, uh, you are really coming into your own, if that makes sense? You seem very much like you, are more inclined to doing as to what makes you happy instead of what will please an authority figure. And that is admirable."
2014-11-22 04:00:10 -
🌀
It was not just shocking to Karkat. It was /disgusting/. He had realized that people in the government were horrible, but whenever some new detail would come up it would just compile upon all the other bullshit they were already doing to oppress people, which frustrated him infinitely. He just wanted to throttle people, or maybe turn into a monster that breathed fire and just go on a rampage or two. And they were such close issues to his heart, since the people he cared about had to live with all of that crap. So really it made him more furious than upset, especially since there were so many people who were just USED to it, like it was just that way. It hurt to hear that sort of thing.
"Oh, that makes sense." Once Tavros had explained more of what he meant Gamzee understood much better. "I guess I am, since I can actually do shit now instead of just trying to avoid trouble all the fuckin' time. ...but I won't be able to do any of this stuff openly in Starnette, you know, just these more equal places." Baking was easy in Rial, because everyone was blue or purple and the stereotypes wouldn't hold so he couldn't be barred from employment or in this case selling something he'd made. In a mixed city or highblooded place though, forget it. In Starnette he doubted anyone in their group besides Sollux or Tavros could sell their goods. Because who /knew/ what kind of thing a problem caste might put in something, or the conditions they would be working in. He didn't really want to go into the details if it would only upset Tavros, though, unless he needed to know about it.

"Yes, unfortunately," Tavros was well aware how I'll received such a notion would be in Starnette. But he had faith that they could sell plenty within Rial, and, perhaps, go across the Sun Sea to the West. He would love to see how different the West was, and they probably hadn't heard much of Alice out there to begin with. Some anonymity would be nice every once in a while.
Downstairs, Tavros approached the clerk, who was just as happy to assist them as before:
"Hello," He greeted, a tiny smile on his face that the clerk returned in addition to a wave of his hand, "Greetings! What can I help you with?"
The overall friendly nature was still a little overwhelming, and Tavros took a moment to collect his thoughts, "The local government hailed us here from Starnette. Is there, uh, mayhaps, a phone number or even a place where we are able to meet them or speak with them ahead of our scheduled appointment?"
"Oh, yes! I have the number of the city hall," The clerk moved to a different side of the desk, taking out a small, rectangular piece of cardstock with the City Hall's phone number on it in elegant violet numbers. Then, the clerk took a pen and wrote down directions to the City Hall relative to the hotel before handing it over, "Here you are, Alice. The number and directions - if you call, though, it will be a secretary and you will probably have to ask them to direct you to Mr. Norkah, who generally handles social issues and the like. I hope that was helpful to you, Alice!" The clerk smiled a little bashfully. "Us Rialans are damn well thankful for everything you've done so far."

🌀
Gamzee wasn't all that sure what to do, so just stood and watched the interaction of his matesprit and the clerk. Now that he thought about it, did they have a phone in their room? He couldn't remember, so that was probably good to bring up... "Is there a phone we could use, too?" he inquired of the now bashful clerk.
Personally, maybe he was just being negative, Gamzee thought the other was being a little optimistic. What had they really done? Gone to a ball and acted as if nothing was all that strange by including lower classes? Of course he could easily be missing something. The outer ramifications of their actions weren't all that readily noticeable from the inside where they were being literally attacked.
Actually, now that he thought a little more, it was probably the perkiness that was throwing him off. Sure Gamzee was pretty generally chilled out, but he didn't really have this enthusiasm. Also getting used to seeing purple somewhere other than the mirror was kind of weird. He supposed it would just take him time to adjust. Maybe quite a lot of it, since the place was still seeming too good to be true. He wasn't sure he wasn't dreaming either. It was still their first day here and so much had happened!

"There's a phone upstairs for you, in your room," The clerk replied, glad that he could be of service. Tavros was having the same thoughts as Gamzee, though, and he raised an eyebrow in slight questioning to the clerk, but he was more tactful about how he approached the concept that they hadn't done much to begin with.
The brownblood thanked him and took hold of the piece of cardstock, "Pardon me, though, I find it imperative that I ask...just why are Rialans so thankful to begin with? I, nor my companions, have really done anything memorable..."
The clerk found himself laughing, "You are just as kindhearted and humble as the newspapers say. It's what you represent - Alice has always been a figure of true character and fairness, the same sorts of ideals that Rial was founded on. The fact that you, along with your friends, look past physical traits like blood and care not for the fact of four of you being legally deemed 'problems'. It's unheard of that such a spectrum of people would be so fond of each other! It's even less common to have a brown and a violet together, such a thing just doesn't happen. It was against the law not too long ago, such a jump in colors. Any stride is a good one, Alice. So, from Rial to you," He gave a small dip of his head, "We thank you."
Tavros had not really given his matespritship to Gamzee much thought, or the familial bonds of his ragtag group, but he could see how such a demonstration that went on with little thought to others could be seen as so radical, so new, so progressive. It would have been the same in Alternia - brownbloods and violetbloods just don't mix.
"Ah, well," He smiled shyly, "Myself and my friends thank Rial just as much. In all our travelling, we have never met such hospitality and warmth. I can only hope, that the West is just as comforting."
"Absolutely," The clerk nodded, but he soon looked worried, "You all were not planning to visit there, are you..?"

It was true it was quite a leap of color between himself and Tavros. Sometimes he forgot that was a problem when they were by themselves. Since they'd met they'd been at least civil with each other; it didn't seem like a big deal after a while. But of course outside observers... and some few memories about being confronted in tea shops and at the ball made some more sense to him now.
Of course the gap between himself and Karkat was a couple steps greater. Gamzee found himself wondering if that would be made a big deal, too, or if because Karkat was a problem caste they would put it down to something that made more sense because of that commonality.
In all honesty he thought maybe Sollux was the odd one out of their group, color and politics wise. He had a nice standing in the government and a good job, and being a yellow a lot of people would probably primarily associate him with police enforcement. He was actually a little ashamed it had taken him some time to get used to their yellow himself. But sweeps of experience just kind of overtook rational thought for a while.
"We were thinking about it, yeah." Well the worried look wasn't comforting at all. "We've heard it can be dangerous, with slavers or such other bullshit about." Borina had told them some things, not all of them very nice sounding. Besides for people being stolen out of their homes and their possessions burned or taken as well. As a large group couldn't that be avoided, though, especially if they had their own ship via Vriska?
