"Then how did it end up on the internet?"

"No idea. So, about these magazines." She took one off the top of the stack.

"Most of them are fairly old, but they're still relevant. And of course, interesting." He flipped the one he held open to an article on scuba diving off the coast of Australia. "Like this one. Did you know the Anthozoa class of sea life includes both anemones /and/ coral?" He seemed genuinely excited about this fact.

●
" The ....what class?" She asked. This is why she is psychological science and not earth science.

"The class Anthozoa includes animals featuring prominently the characteristics of polyps with a flower-like appearance and a large gastrovascular cavity. It's within the phylum of Cnidaria, and all species that includes can catch prey using nematocysts, which is, in simpler terms, a poisoned, miniature harpoon gun they use to hook the victim, drag it closer, and dissolve its insides for ease of consumption. Several species of coral are now extinct, however, which is almost ironic considering they consist of nothing but the corpses of other Anthozoa members." He laughed at this and continued. "This article in particular is about the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Australia, the largest coral reef in the world. It's home to over fifteen-hundred species of fish, six hundred of echinoderms, and a whole other thirty kinds of whales and dolphins! Can you believe that? Plenty of birds nest there too, capping off the massive diversity."

She stared at him blankly, genuinely impressed with this knowledge. "...wow."
2015-10-02 02:37:03 -
🌀
"The ocean's such an interesting place, I'd really like to visit it some..." He noticed her blank look. "...I'm sorry, did I lose you?"
2015-10-02 02:41:23 -
●
"...A little." A lot.
2015-10-02 02:42:35 -
🌀
"Oh, I apologize, I really need to stop doing that."
2015-10-02 02:44:27 -
●
"Maybe just tone it down a little?"
2015-10-02 02:45:00 -
🌀
"........right." He cleared his throat and turned the page of the magazine, looking a bit bashful.
2015-10-02 02:46:39 -
●
"That was... really intresting. And you know all that how?"
2015-10-02 02:48:33 -
🌀
"Oh? I'm glad you thought so. I used to have a full set of encyclopedias. I think they're on a fire escape somewhere now."
2015-10-02 02:49:53 -
●
"That's awesome....and sad at the same time."
2015-10-02 02:51:22 -
🌀
"I guess it is. But I couldn't well drag them with me while I was trying to catch up to you."
2015-10-02 02:52:44 -
●
"Yeah, sorry about that...again."
2015-10-02 02:53:21 -
🌀
"No, I don't blame you. I would've done the same thing...if I could run as fast as you did, anyway. I really messed up that time. I'm sorry you had to go through that."
2015-10-02 02:54:31 -
●
"I'm over it, so it's okay."
2015-10-02 02:55:37 -
🌀
"Oh. Okay." He set the magazine aside and picked up another. He opened it, found an interesting pullout displaying a period table with samples of every element, and opened his mouth, then closed it again. Tone it down.

She glanced down. "Hey! I remember that!" She smiled. "I had to memorize that for chemistry in highschool. " Almost failed it, but he didn't need to know that.

"As well as most other science classes, I'm guessing, since it's required to comprehend most. Do you remember valence electrons?"
2015-10-02 03:14:31 -
●
"Nope."
2015-10-02 03:15:21 -

"They're the electrons in the outer energy level of each atom, the ones that are given or shared to create ionic or covalent-- ..sorry, I'll stop."

"Yeah, you were starting to lose me again, sorry."
