I've been trying to avoid Seculus until it goes away. As nice as it sounds, being able to talk to him when he's confident, he'd sort of reminded me of some weird combination of Jack and Ish, confident to the point that he felt the need to voice every opinion and was completely reckless. ...after Ivory came over, he calmed down a little, but I still didn't want to give him any excuse to yell at me. It feels horrible when it's him. He kept leaving open matchboxes around the apartment, I don't know why, and I started hiding them in my dresser drawer until we were supposedly out. One night after I finished getting dressed for work, though, I turned and jumped to find him standing in my doorway. "/Jesus/, don't--" Did he find out about what my dream self did? Is he going to hurt me? He shook his head a little. "...I'm sorry about the way I've been acting. I need your help." I wasn't sure if he was bullshitting me. "I doubt it." "No, really. I think...that bad kind of confidence is gone, but Ivory told me how to be....um....comfortable...in my skin?" ...well, he definitely /sounds/ more like himself. I kept my eyes on him and hesitantly asked "What do you need help with?" "....there's something I want to do. I don't know if you'd....necessarily be happy with it, especially with how close you've been to Ivory recently, but....I was hoping you...might...." Oh. This? "...well it's about time." I relaxed. He's back to his old, considerate self. And I'm not going to get punched in the face. Again. "Again? Oh, dear, did I do something to you and forget, I'm so, so sorry...." "No, not you, Lance, when I first got out. And Thantos. It's okay, you didn't do anything." I moved towards him and put my hand on his shoulder. He reached out and pulled me towards him. Ren sat cuddling on the back porch with Ivory, looking up at the dulled stars and waiting for midnight, when eight different parties would simultaneously send up fireworks and they would hear the cheering all the way from Time Square.
