"My well-being? Did any of them even get the context of that conversation?"

"If they did, it shouldn't matter. Terezi and I would talk about murder right in earshot of the other customers when she would take me out. They usually don't care or try to help."

That was extremely depressing to think about. "....I think I miss the country." At least there people gave a shit when someone had a problem, even if they were strangers. Of course, that apathetic city-dweller rule apparently didn't apply to this building.

"I'm sure Terezi would of love to have trade places with you then." She pointed out. "Especially in Missouri. Animals. Animals and people with shotguns everywhere."

"That couldn't have been pleasant. For lack of pleasantness, at least New York is safer for those like her." Our meal arrived ridiculously quickly, mostly due to them having nothing else to do. The same waiter, whose nametag I now saw read 'Blake', scribbled out and written over with 'Blunt', put our plates down on the table, a new unlit cigarette sticking out of his stubble-shadowed mouth. He took it between his fingers and scratched his close-cut, dark hair. "Enjoy. Just shout when you're done." He gave us a determined-faced thumbs-up and returned to the kitchen, where the staff seemed to be converging to have some sort of meeting.

"It wasn't too bad. We went to Washington too, that's about I started to well....become who I am now, for lack of a better word." Taking her knife in her left hand, she began cutting her pancakes up. It was something she learned that was unique about herself, that she really wasn't meant to be right handed."I wish you could of come along. You would of loved the view."

"I'm certain I would have. Though as much as I wish I could have come as well, I couldn't have left darling." I hadn't been calling him that to his face recently. It'd been a tough habit to break, but somehow I managed it.

"Yes, and sadly Terezi wouldn't let anyone else come along. It's a shame, really. Even if we were all forced to leave, at least would of had each other." She poured syrup on her pancakes before taking a bite. "Mmmmm! These are /really/ good."

"At least. A lot of fighting would have resulted, though." I hadn't tried them yet. I cut a bite with strawberry and whipped cream on it. I'd eaten here before, but certainly nothing had ever tasted like this. Maybe food tasted better around the one you loved, or, for a less romantic and slightly more logical reason, the staff had put all their focus into them instead of mass-producing pancakes for a full house. Either away, I agreed. "...you're right. Maybe we should come here more when it's empty."

"I would love that. " Well, it looked like they had a regular thing to do from now on. "This is the best meal I've had in a long time." She took another bite of her pancakes.

"Well, you /have/ been on the run, generally that doesn't provide many opportunities for quality food." This might be enjoyable to do on a regular basis. I hoped the staff wouldn't get annoyed with us.

"You're right. However, this thought has been in my mind for a while." She swallowed before continuing. "And that is when did you and Tassek move in together?"

A good question. It was odd to think about how we'd used to 'fight'. It didn't even really count as fighting, considering it was one-sided. "...shortly after you left. It seemed logical, especially after Terezi's rent for the month ran out. I didn't have enough to pay for it single-handedly, but we could afford to share a larger apartment."

"...And what had become of Terezi's home?"

"It has become something of a central meeting place. Everyone contributes a little. Every so often it's a refuge."

"Hmm, interesting. How is everyone else , then? No one has killed each other yet?"

"Almost, but not quite. They are all currently alive and well." For the most part. Zane hadn't seemed quite so healthy as of late.

"That's wonderful." She paused to take another bite. "..When do you think I could meet them all?"

"Organizing is the difficult part. Whenever they manage to coincidentally all arrive at once, I suppose."
2015-05-20 17:35:37 -

"I am sure that will happen soon, since Terezi has returned." She finished her plate.

"True. I'm sure one of them will spread the word." When we were both done, 'Blunt' came back out and I maneuvered my wallet out of my pocket, but he put up a hand. "Nope. On the house. We all agreed on it." "What? No, I couldn't, I don't think that's actually allowed." "No worries. We're all chipping in a little to compensate. It's no biggy." No worries, hm? "...am I at least allowed to tip you?" "Your tip can be rethinking your life and realizing how much it means to the people around you." "........um, what?" "Be sure to visit around this time if you feel like you need a snack and a pat on the back. No charge." "....thank you?" He gave me a solemn half-smile and took our plates, disappearing again and leaving nothing but a trail of smoke. I...think there may have been a misunderstanding.

Anndrea watched the conversation before them and glanced outside. Well, at least they were being nice to him. He needed it. Her eyes noticed the light starting to peak through the sky. "...Is that the sun?" She asked mostly herself. She hadn't seen a sunrise before. Since she got out she had been too busy taking care of Terezi to have time to see it.

I turned my head to see what she was looking at and was fondly reminded of the first full sunrise I'd seen, the first conversation I'd had with darling that didn't end with him calling me a coward. Now I'd have another lovely sunrise first. "Yes. Don't stare directly at it, though." The clouds around it were tinged pink and orange. It really was very pretty.

"It's....really beautiful." A warm sunrise was something they all needed. Well, everyone except the vampires. "Can we...can we watch it?" She looked back at him, a smile on her face.

I smiled back a little sadly. It truly was too bad that the others had to miss out on this just because of a silly thing like dying. What. "Of course we can. We don't have to go anywhere." A few more people were starting to arrive, early-morning businessmen on the way to work and students getting breakfast before class.
